Lump on back of neck

About time HA reared its ugly head once again, this time with my fear of lumps and bumps coming out in the woodwork. So to make a long story short, the other day I noticed a lump on the back of my neck just below the hairline, and I can't describe its appearance aside from being about the size of a pea, mobile, and can be squished down and become more or less prominent depending on how I bend my neck. My first instinct is lymph node but I don't believe there are any in that area that can be felt. Another was a bug bite but again I'm not sure if that's the case. I want to say cyst or inflamed follicle but again I'm questioning.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Do I have any reason to be alarmed? I feel a little pain around it but having done some home renovations and a lot of lifting, that could do it.

You should wait a few days to see if it disappears. If not gone by then, consult your Doctor. I'm sure it nothing that should cause concern.

Can't see a doctor just yet, I have an appointment on the 10th for a quarterly medicine checkup. If it's not gone by then I'll make mention of it but I wanted to get some input here.

I'm no doctor but it sounds like you might have a lipoma. It's just a lump of fatty cells just under the skin where a small pocket has formed and fills up with extra cells, causing the bump. I've got a couple of them, one on the same place as yours and one on my thigh. They're harmless unless for some reason they cause pain. No need for an extra trip to the doctor but worth asking about on your next appointment. Nothing to worry about.

I have one on the back of my neck. It started as an ingrown hair and once that resolved the bump has been there for years. No idea why but it isn't harmful and hasn't caused me any problems.

I was thinking cyst or lipoma. It's not painful in and of itself but it can get irritated. I'm just curious if it's a dire situation or not. Sounds like it isn't but you know how anxiety can be

Update: It feels smaller and not as pronounced, but I can tell it's still there. If it were anywhere else I wouldn't be as concerned as I am, but do I even really need to be worried?

Update again: It's still there but getting smaller, maybe smaller than a pea. It also doesn't feel as raised but it's still a bit painful to the touch. I guess I best leave it alone and let nature take its course
