Lately my anxiety has escalated significantly because I'm back at school and that's a big trigger for me. To make things worse, my roommate graduated last semester and now I'm living alone for the first time in my life. I'm finding it really hard to keep from falling back into old patterns. The thing that bothers me the most is figuring out how to eat enough. During the day I'm so anxious that I don't have any appetite at all and it's really difficult to eat. If anyone has advice on how to get enough food when anxiety is making you too nauseous/tense to eat, I would really appreciate it.

A great way to pack on extra calories (swimmers and athletes do this) is eating UNSHELLED sunflower seeds. I know that sounds weird. But 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds has 200 calories in it.

To figure out how many calories you need to maintain your weight, try fitwatch target date calculator online. Fill in the form and then press the calculate button. It will tell you how much to eat and how much to lose weight. Obviously you’re not looking to lose weight, but just put like any number in the amount to lose section and it will calculate both for you.

Then you can have a numerical value to try to hit everyday. Some days, eat a little more, and other days when you eat less, it’s not a big deal. Calories are cumulative. As long as you balance out by the end of the week you should maintain your weight.

Hope this helps!!

I get the same thing with the loss of appetite. My absolute best advice is get used to certain times of the day eating something... like in the morning, eat something with your multi vitamin... I believe it's easiest to eat "simple" foods.... ones with the most nutrients for you... So the night before... Boil eggs and have them in your lunch bag or frig.

These are easy foods to get down and will keep you strong -
- Hard boiled eggs
- Greek Yogurt
- Protein bars (low fiber, low sugar ones)
- Lunch, Chicken or low sodium turkey w/ cheese sandwich (if the bread is hard to get down, take sips of water while you chew)

Sorry you're going through a rough time right now. I'm sure everyone has experienced this at one point with their anxiety. You're not alone. I for one lost a couple of pounds on my peak anxiety and had a super hard time eating. The foods that were easiest for me to eat were:

Protein shakes, it's just liquid and the protein will give you energy for the day.
Spaghetti, not the healthiest but it was just simple to eat.
Soup, any kind preferably with lots of veggies. They're soft and easy to eat plus still gives you nutrition.
Soft granola bars, quick and simple.

Also experiment what are your easy go to's it varies per person. Dont forget to keep yourself hydrated!
