Hello eyeryone,

This is my first post (non-native English speaker) and I wonder if I could connect to other ppl who feel like they shouldn't have anxiety/depression/disorders at their age.

I often beat myself up because I feel like with 28 years of age, I should be able to 'handle my life' (at least at a minimal level), get my s**t together, as they call it and not overthink every interaction and what other people think of me.

I hope sharing our stories on this forum helps me reflect these thoughts better.

Thank you and
Hugs, Quenntchen

PS: Sorry if this is a repost, feel free to guide me to the already existing thread

I'm close to twice your age and still struggle with social anxiety. I just recently started discussing it with my therapist, partly because I was ashamed to open up about it earlier. I was originally diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (which I think still stands), but social anxiety feels more intense and easier to identify in my daily interactions.

I think the shame comes from seeing it as weak or cowardly. It's not that at all, and it isn't overcome by toughening up. Be kind to yourself.

Are you seeing a therapist?

Quenntchen, what is your gender? Society seems to view these things differently depending on the person's gender, and it's easy for us to internalize that even if we don't think that way on an intellectual level. Do you think that factors into your feelings?

I’m older than you as well and I am a hot mess right now. I’d recommend trying therapy...it is my saving grace at the moment and my therapist is really the only person I feeling comfortable speaking my mind to.
