Is this social anxiety?

I have a neighbor that I just can't stand. She's a pathological liar and a drama queen. If there isn't drama in the neighborhood, she'll create it with lies. She's always mad at someone and doing vindictive, evil things to them and their property. She's 40 years old and behaves like a 12 year old. Whoever isn't standing in front of her, she's backstabbing to everyone else. It's always just a matter of time till it's your turn to be backstabbed and have to deal with her childish behavior. The other day I came home, we share a common area in our apartment building, and she was sitting with her friend. The minute I walked in, she put her hand in front of her mouth and whispered to the other woman, they both looked at me and said nothing. This is just one example of her usual behavior. I think she's my only anxiety trigger. If she moved tomorrow, my life would be fabulous. But, as long as she's lived here, I've had waves of uncontrollable anxiety. I'm afraid to see her, I'm afraid to talk to or about her regardless of if it's positive or negative, the sound of her voice makes me sick to my stomach. Just the idea of her makes me weak in the legs when I'm just trying to come home from work. She doesn't work so she could be outside at any time of the day or night. Is this social anxiety?

Hi whippetiggy. Sorry you're letting this neighbor get you so worked up. It has nothing to do with social anxiety, just your current inability to just accept that your neighbor is a jerk, that you're a better person than she is. Sounds like more of a self-esteem problem that you need to work on. You know deep down that this lady is not worth having any effect on your life and I'm sure others that know her are aware of her childish behavior. So try not to worry about what she might be saying about you. As long as you know that you're a good person, what others might say or do shouldn't effect you so directly.

Thank you. Yes, my self esteem is non-existent at this point. I'm not sure how to work on that but I keep having severe anxiety so I've got to do something.
