Is it normal?

I don't know if its normal but every time I feel upset especially with my husband I would hit the shops and buy something for myself. The more upset I become the more expensive stuff I buy.

No, I don't think this is normal. I think you may be addicted to shopping. It sounds like it's how you soothe yourself. If I were you I'd seek counseling.

I am kind of the same way. When I'm depressed, I hit Target. Maybe buying myself something special (it doesn't have to cost much) makes me feel better.

I guess its pretty normal, maybe you are punishing your husband.

I've noticed many guys that get an earful from their wives have an extra beer or two on that specific night. Costs less than a new hat and shoes...

Thanks a lot for your views guys, it's nice to know that I'm alone in this.

I do the same thing!! Actually, shopping always makes me feel better, even if it's just something small and inexpensive. I think it's just a womans instinct to want to shop, just like drinking a beer and bbqing is for men! If you start to notice your shopping is causing huge financial problems, then I would say you need counseling, but not now.

I think that what you are doing is normal. Shopping can be very euphoric, but I would caution that shopping can be addictive for this very reason.

M mom is always shopping and she is never satisfied with anything. She is always searching for something new. That is how she gains her happiness. Now, she is not one of those people that is out of control/obsessive, but it is not healthy to spend just because you are unhappy. The "high" you get from shopping is temporary and not the solution to the problem.

In fact, this year for Lent, I have decided to give up shopping. I want to really discipline myself and learn to focus on what I have and deal with my emotions in a healthy way instead of suppressing the emotions through shopping.

Anyway, this just my opinion. I suspect more people do this than you realize.

Actually that was my resolution before I got so upset and disappointed. Too bad I was not able to fulfill it. Well I can always start again.
