How many of you here get insomnia and can't sleep well at night? Or you wake in the night and the heart is beating fast?

I have been suffering from terrible insomnia for years (and years, maybe 6-8 or more). I'm getting about 5 hours right now, but go many nights with only 3-4 hours. I usually have no problem falling asleep, but will wake up 1-2-3 hours later feeling wide awake. I'm not feeling anxious, just feeling awake. Sometimes I can easily fall back to sleep after that but more often I am awake for an hour or two or more and/or sleep fitfully for the rest of the night. And once in a while I get lucky and get a good 8 hours of sleep.

As someone who has been dealing with depression for most of my life, I had trouble getting to sleep most nights before I went on psychiatric medications starting in year 2000. I would usually not get to sleep until about two hours after going to bed.

And as someone who has been dealing with mania for a long time, I used to have a sleepless night once every year or two.

But the medication I'm now on allows me to sleep very well. I rarely have trouble getting to sleep after my head hits the pillow at night nowadays.

Yea last night was a rough sleep for me... and when I can't get to sleep right away it causes issues... Last night I ate Steak for dinner.. I read how that can keep a person up or cause restless nights... But I get anxiety when I can't fall asleep... I start wondering how I'll do at work the next day very well knowing I need to be up in a few hours...

Work days can be tough when I'm relying on food for energy... I don't take pills/meds and am doing what I can to work through this naturally... On a regular week, I'll have 3 days of "decent" sleep... 2-3 days of below average sleep.. 1 day of rotten sleep...

I almost always get my full eight hours of sleep at this point in my life.

Also, when I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, I practically always am able to get right back to sleep.

What medication do you attribute to you getting a full eight hours of sleep? Do you feel well rested or are you groggy?
