I don't want to google it please help

HI guys,

My situation is not better, I have a really painful tongue and a really numb (left side of) chin and jaw with occasional ear pain.
Yesterday I almost went to another ENT doc but I resisted... (the other one told me I have acid reflux but I can'T believe that causes numb chin and sore tongue only on the left side! I also take pills for reflux and it is ok now)

I dont have time until next week but I will go to my GP and ask his opinion (I haven't seen him for 6 months). Maybe he can tell me what to do or where to go if not to an ENT doc.

Now my biggest concern is tongue cancer or base of tongue cancer and I have a very very strong urge to google the symptoms of this cancer.
I try really hard not to because I know that it will freak me out even more. The constant bunring and hurting of my tongue have freaked me out already.


So the ENT doctor should have seen it if it's tongue cancer right? Or can it be under where you can not see?
I had an ultrasound (during summer) on my neck and glands and everything seemed normal (I had some minor symptoms then).

I feel so miserable, this constant pain and fear... I always concetrate on myself and feel sorry for myself... I hope someone can sympathize ...

Elena,

Any oral cancer can be seen by the ENT unless it is way in the back past the tonsils (then he has ways to check that area out in office). The areas you describe are quite visible by the naked eye and ENTs typically look at the area under excellent lighting conditions so as not to miss something like that. Add in the ultrasound results and you're good to go. Good idea of course not to Google; enter stuffy nose and you'll be told you have cancer.

definitely stay off of google! any ent worth their salt would be able to spot oral cancer. did they scope your nose during your exam? most oral cancer doesn't cause symptoms until it's fairly advanced at which point you'd almost certainly have visible symptoms, which you don't have.

ENT would catch it. That is literally their speciality.

My ENT uses a camera to look down my throat. Looks at everything from the tonsil down to my voice box.

I'm pretty sure we're both talking about the same test. it's a tube that goes up your nose and down your throat. not the most pleasant experience in the world.

No, she didnt inserted anything in my nose She looked in my nose with her eyes only
And then she put this little mirror down my throat (through my mouth.)

I actually know someone that has oral cancer and in his case it was spotted by a dentist when he went there for a regular check up (he didn't have symptoms yet), so I am sure the ENT would notice if there was something wrong!

Yes, I also get an oral cancer screening from my dentist as well every time I go.

The only thing I am worried about is HPV as a past girlfriend of mine had it. That was over 8 years ago. My wife now has had normal Pap smears and screenings. Never had an abnormal test.

It’s just good practice. They see thousands of mouths and know what to look for.

If they are going to catch something, better be early than late.

I have had the camera scope twice. The first ent did it through the nose. The second one just did it from the mouth.

It’s a cool little device that is a tube that can bend and has a camera/lens built in that they can see through.

I didnt want to name it but yes HPV is my big theory.. I dont know about having it but my current partner had some one-night stand before me...
And I read somewhere that HPV can cause bad things in your mouth as well.. I
But again I don't know about having it.

It is literally true, that's why I just won't google. (Anyway I did it some months ago after the symptoms had come and of course 8 articles out of 10 was about cancer... google is so cruel!)

Reassurance!!! Thankyou! I’m worried I may have cancer on my
Tongue, petrified actually. I have had 3 dentist visits all with the same dentist, diagnosed me with gingivitis, and upon the last visit I shared my
Concerns about cancer on my tongue and she said she has no concerns and cannot see oral cancer present, whilst I walked out of there all happy, why am I now struggling to come to terms with that? And put it to rest, I know HA plays a massive part, but seriously, I just want to know why I’m having these odd sensations, surely I’m entitled to a diagnosis, doctors think I’m fine and it’s all psychological but it’s really getting me down, especially as the last few days Iv had a horrible sore throat but only that side along with some lovely ear pain. Obviously google has diagnosed me a million times over!! I am also due to speak with the mental health nurse on Wednesday so I am dealing with HA too just don’t think my sensations have anything to do with that! Sorry for the long rant.
