I often think how we are differently wired. For example I seem to have a hard time being content. In my mind even though if a situation is ok, and I know it's ok, I still think about it. I am someone who has a hard time mentally relaxing. At the same time it has created a stubborn drive in me that allows things to get done I want to accomplish. Certian aspects are positive and certian aspects are most definitely negative.

The OCD in my HA causes me to want to get everything done, and done well, to the detail. Great for job security, lousy for like you said, being calm and content.

EB, I recently finished a book that documents this (how we have different innate brain types). If you're interested, it's 'You, Happier' by Daniel Amen.
He describes the different brain types & which kind of activities & diets benefit each 'type' the most..
Based on your brief description, I might guess that Dr. Amen would categorize your brain in the 'persistent' brain type.. /peace

I overthink every single thing. It's like I have to make a huge deal about everything or look for things to be worried or upset about. Hard to be at peace when your brain is like that.

As we get older this will will diminish. Why? Because we begin to realise none of it really matters. Life goes on irrespective of what we do. We can aspire for perfection, but that can create more problems. Years ago there was an old Negro song. 'Ol man River'. 'He just goes rolling along' 'He don't plant tatters, he don't sow cotton, but them that plants them are soon forgotten, but ol man river, he just keeps rolling along'. Peace comes when we give up trying to be perfect. Let life flow around you like a rock in a river. The rock is unmoved by the water. Be an observer. Watch it all as a movie on a screen. It's all a show, a performance. One big illusion that we all take so seriously. Shakespeare had it about right. 'All the world's a stage, and we the players, strut and fret our way across it, and are seen no more'.

I love his books... they're so good. His clinic is only 4hrs from my home.

I've listened to so much of his stuff on TV and also he is sometimes a guest on New Life Live radio show where people call in with their mental health issues and the psychologists give them advice and help. I think he is really interesting, but nothing he has ever said ever really helped me. Have you gotten anything from him that really made a difference in your anxiety? I'm just curious because no matter how much good information I hear from different psychologists/counselors/Dr Amen, it makes sense but doesn't really help me much.

You are not alone. I go back to the eighties when anxiety was beginning to be recognised as a problem in society. From then on the so called 'advice' by so many know all's has been like a torrent, and always there is money behind it. Recently on the web it showed how many so called 'Pastors; in the US are millionaires! Cashing in on suffering is not new. People with anxiety become desperate and look anywhere for help, and are so often conned into believing someone has a cure. I have actually seen adverts saying 'get rid of anxiety in four days'. Were it so easy! Books on the subject have proliferated so that confusion becomes a real issue. The authors have made millions out of royalties. There are books that have genuine helpful advice, but very few. Some so called authors have not even had anxiety! If you go to that amazing website in Canada, anxietycentre.com you will find genuine and helpful advice there. Why? Because no one works there that has not been through the mill of anxiety, even the counsellors. I came to counselling through anxiety, and there is no way I could have helped anyone had I not done so. 'Buyer beware' is a good motto when listening to advice from so called experts or buying books. There are many helpers, including psychiatrists and doctors who have never been there. The 'snap out of it brigade' or 'pull yourself together' as I call them, are still going strong. I often wonder how they would cope with a bad bout of anxiety.
