So my pcp prescribed Viibryd first and I had the most horrible anxiety ever. I took it one day and could not tolerate it. That was last Friday. Two years ago I was prescribed Zoloft and took it for a year and I don't remember much side effects getting on or off. So he prescribed me that again. I'm just scared to start. I can't handle the anxiety being any worse. How do you handle this?

Is Effexor helping you? Are you havejng bad anxiety getting back on. I wish I never got off the Zoloft a year ago because it's so bad now. I feel like nothing will help me and I will endure this forever. It's too much. This is a living hell.
CC , after stopping Effexor I had full-blown anxiety. I went back to my NP a week ago and she put me back on it (at a higher dose - before I would only take the lowest dose). Honestly, I was desperate and *readily* went back on it. It sounds as if Zoloft maybe helped you? My husband has been on it for years and it has changed him for the better. Since you had no scary side effects, I think you have your answer. Your anxiety is loud and is convincing you to be afraid of taking the Zoloft. What is your brain / heart telling you? Please think about this! I am worried about you! And I quote you: "I wish I had never got off the Zoloft a year ago" The good news: You can get back on it and get some much needed relief!
I don't mean to worry you! I'm just having such a hard time and anxiety makes you feel so awful. The only problem I had on Zoloft is weight gain and sexual side effects as I increased the dose. I actually just took the Zoloft but half of 25 mg so super low so hopefully that helps any side effects. The only thing I remember from starting last time is nausea here and there and maybe a little weird feeling but that was it. I'm just terrified after the Viibryd. I'm hoping by next week the Zoloft starts to help and I get no odd side effects so I can finally feel better.
My husband has been great these last few days. I think he finally sees that this is real for me and it's been debilitating. That makes it's a lot easier to have some support. Please keep in touch with me. You've been such a help. Thank you again so much! You will be in my prayers tonight.
Awww, thanks CC. I am so glad your husband is supportive. I had those side effects with Lexapro years ago, but none with Effexor. Good for you for taking the Zoloft, and remember, most doctors are willing to try something else if you don't like what it does to you.

Miha, yeah I used to obsess over every twitch in my body. Like I said before, i was obsessed with the fear of getting Parkinsons or ALS. I would sit on my couch watching TV all night, staring at my toes, waiting for them to twitch. And of course...they did. You are experiencing all these weird symptoms because of the anxiety. I guarantee it. How long have you been dealing with this?
CC, it's been proven that not all SSRIs work for everyone. Basically, your doctor will keep trying different ones until they find the right one for you. The side effects usually don't last that long either. Given your state, it's probably worth it to face this head on by starting the meds as soon as possible. The sooner you start, the sooner this whole thing is over. And again, try some of those other tactics I mentioned earlier in this thread. When you feel that wave of anxiety coming on, try clinching your fists or your stomach muscle as hard as you can. And then literally focus on the relief you feel when you release the tension. Close your eyes if you have to.
Keep us posted on your daily progress when you start the medication. You can use this like a diary...well, a diary that writes back

So sorry.
It can take 2-3 weeks for your body to adjust to an SSRI. I would recommend sticking it out if you can to see if the side effects go away (they normally do). It will NOT cause you any long-term effects to do that - you can always decide to stop taking it down the road if that's what's best for you. You are not harming yourself by trying it, and you are not stuck on it forever. But if you think you need the help right now, give it a chance to get into your system and for your brain to get regulated on it. It just takes time, and it can be really uncomfortable in the meantime, especially if you feel anxiety about the medicine itself. Over time, the meds should help with that fear as well and help get your body calmed down. Hang in there!!! Blessings to you!Yeah, stick with it. You will get over the hump real soon. Hi Summers do you have any tips in regards to getting over the fear that people are talking about you behind your back? I just started a new job and went through quite a rough patch shortly after, well still going through it. I just have the feeling that people talk about me behind my back and I makes me really self conscious and nervous, which again leads to me behaving weirdly, which then leads to people talking about me. It’s a spiral and I have no idea how to break out of it.
Hi Rinka, I overcame worrying what people thought about me, but honestly, it was age that did it. I am 70 and do not give one iota what people think of me. And when I was younger it drove me bonkers. I wish I could tell you it doesn't matter what others think of you and you would believe me, but that never worked for me. I look back and regret all the time I fretted over this very thing. One piece of advice: At work especially, don't YOU talk about anyone behind their back, and hopefully you will be pleased with being your Higher Self and not acting like those who need to gossip about others in order to feel good about themselves. Hi Rinka! I used to care about that a lot as well. Well, I still do, but not to the extent of fear or anxiety. My honest answer is, as I became closer to God and really tried to actually practice Christianity, I learned and accepted that only His opinion matters. I know that answer is not for everyone, but that's my first thought.
My second thought is exactly what Peggy said, make sure you aren't a gossiper as well (which you aren't). That was (is) my problem, I talk about other people sometimes and it makes me insecure that they are talking about me.
Third, its probably just a phase. How long have you dealt with this issue? Is this the first time this kind of thing has happened?
Rinka, I read your post again and you said you 'have a feeling' that people are talking about you. I believe that many of us with anxiety never felt safe as children and this ultimately developed into insecurity issues. I know I still have them! Maybe they are *not* talking about you, or maybe they are saying positive things about you. But if they are being unkind, they are not worth getting to know, and I am sure you will meet others who are worth knowing. I wish you a peaceful and satisfying work week! Peggy

Thank you Peggy. I do agree about the insecurity as a child. I suppose in my case, it was the divorce of my parents and the insecure circumstances that followed. I so think that experiences of uncertainty, lose of control and insecure circumstances lead to forms of anxiety in later life.
