Don’t get what you mean...
what i mean is you continue to research your symptoms on the internet and, miraculously, new symptoms are popping up left and right. it's not a coincidence.

even the most aggressive cancers out there don't spread as fast as your symptoms are popping up.

please stop googling your symptoms. stop doing "research." it's only making your anxiety worse. it's only making your symptoms worse. it's probably even CREATING your symptoms (yes... I'm saying a lot of it is probably in your head.) it does ZERO good. none. nada. zip. zilch.

if you had cancer that was THAT aggressive, there's no way it would be missed on a chest x-ray, which you had and which was clear.

you are fine. you likely have pulled muscle and a TON of anxiety.

Thanks I’m seeing a therapist tomorrow and have been prescribed muscle relaxers hopefully that will help me get better

You are scared still because you have set your body into a heightened mode of awareness. You have gotten your anxiety levels up so far that it doesn’t back off.

There is an analogy that I like to use. Think of anxiety as a liquid and your body a cup. Now, under normal circumstances you can put some liquid (anxiety) in the cup (your body) and it’s no problem. However, if you pour and pour the cup begins to fill and once it is full it will overflow (panic) then if you keep pouring it will keep overflowing. The only way to get past it is to empty the cup. That can be done by various means, medication, therapy, mindfulness, relaxation. I would suggest that instead of googling health symptoms you start searching for relaxation techniques, guided mindfulness, and progressive muscle relaxation.

I’ve been in your situation before, my anxiety was about my heart so, of course, I had chest pain all the time. Then it would move into my stomach and I figured that must be stomach cancer or my pancreas or something. If it was in my back my kidneys were failing, if a headache came I had a brain tumor. That is how anxiety works. You think the worst no matter how much evidence there is against it.

The body has a natural reaction to fear, whether the fear is real or imagined the reaction is the same. Your body will pump more adrenaline which will make you more alert, it will make you more aware of things (like sensations in your body) and will tighten your muscles in preparation to escape the danger. That tightening of the muscles is what causes most of the pain that we experience. Your entire body is filled with muscles and if you are tightening any of them even without knowing it they will become sore. Since you didn’t know that you were tightening them the only thing you feel is the soreness and you have no idea why.

Try 2 experiments. First, hold out your arm and clinch your fist as tight as you can, try to hold this for several minutes. The first thing you’ll notice is that it becomes weak, then it will become sore. The soreness will last for a while, and that is what’s happening to your other muscles and why you are hurting. The second one is this, sit somewhere still and imagine that you have a tingling sensation somewhere in your body, hand, foot, doesn’t matter. After a minute you’ll actually feel the tingle, then imagine that it moves to somewhere else and you’ll notice that it does. This shows how the mind can perceive something and then make it real. That is why the pain keeps happening, you are thinking it’s there and making a reality.

The biggest thing is to be sure to mention all of this to your doctor. They may think you’re crazy at first (mine did) but they will then do testing to make sure that everything is fine, once they see that it is they will treat you for the anxiety. It’s a process but one very much worth doing. You can be back to normal but you have to help yourself too. Stop looking up symptoms and start looking up treatments. I promise that it will do more good for you.

Thank you so much I appreciate your advice u think with my anxiety I only get when I get triggered like if I feel so pain then I obviously don’t feel anxious but if I do then I start to get anxious one thing I want to ask you is about the tensing muscle thing how can your muscles be then if it’s not from movement like do you mean they get tense from the anxiety or what? Because if so how does that happen? I just think the thing that has scared me the most is it has not gone away yet and also the fact that I’m having to wait to have these test which means until I have them I’m worrying I had a blood test today for a full blood count don’t know how long the results take for that and they r referring me to the respiratory department and a pain management doctor which I don’t much about

Yes, the muscles tense on their own as a result of anxiety. Then when you wake the next morning they are sore so you feel pain and start to worry which tenses them again and that’s the cycle. The anxiety causes the tension, the tension causes the pain, the pain causes anxiety. That’s why it’s so hard to break.

That’s where the muscle relaxation techniques come in. They can take the tension away which, over time can reduce the pain. Also, the relaxation techniques will help to calm your mind which will again reduce anxiety and tension.

But I don’t have any pain when moving so could it still be muscle tension? Also do u have any recommendations for muscle relaxation techniques? The worst areas tend to be at the top of my spine and under both shoulder blades they hurt either when taking deeps breaths or just sitting still so if u know anything that might help with that please let me know

Yes, it can definitely be muscle tension. Even if the muscles are not tense all of the time they will be sore from being tense. That's why I mentioned the experiment with tightening your fist. By doing that you will see how a muscle hurts when it's tense and you will see how it will still be sore once the tension is released. Those 2 things I mentioned are just to show you how these things can happen.

As far as where the pain is, that was one of my areas too. I felt like I had a knife in my back! I thought it was a problem until one day while I was having the pain I took some medication for anxiety and the pain went away! That told me that I was keeping those muscles tense and not even realizing it. Headaches are another thing, because of the tension in the neck it can cause pain in your head as well as anywhere else. The biggest thing I can tell you is this, do whatever tests the doctors want and believe the results. For right now you have to trust that if the doctors were really concerned about something they would rush you in to do the testing, they would not wait days or weeks for appointments and results. If they felt that there was a serious concern they would take immediate action. Trust them, they generally know what they're doing.

As far as what to do and how to do it, check out a book that can be found online for free, it's called "What? me worry?" it has 8 modules and is really good. You can also google for "mindfulness" and "progressive muscle relaxation" There are many online resources on the topics.

I’m really scared I might have lung cancer I’ve been having sharp pains in my upper back when breathing and I’m really scared I don’t want to die
I had this happen to me before I went into the ER after being in pain for a few weeks they ran some blood work and did a scan and x ray. They sent me home with a prescription for pain meds and told me it was a pinched nerve. I tell you it hurt when I would breath it was a way different type of pain then a pulled muscle in the back it felt like the pain was coming from my lung. It took 4 to 5 weeks for me to feel healed.

Really I didn’t know pinched nerves could last that long? What pain killers did they give you and did they work? I have pain in the top of my spine and shoulder blades when breathing was that the same for you?

So did you also have a similar experience to me and if so did you just go about normal life or did you rest etc? I’ve been like this for almost 3 weeks now

I didn't get the pain med, I spent a lot of time laying on the heating pad it eventually went away. It took a long time you just gotta ride it out. You should be feeling better soon. Keep me updated.

Depending on what medication they gave you they may only provide temporary relief. Medications like Xanax or other benzodiazepines act quickly and wear off quickly. They are not a long term solution. What I did and what most of us do is go onto an anti depressant for at least a short time. In order to get past all of the pain you have to calm yourself and stay calm for a period of time so that your body can recover. The things I suggested like mindfulness can help with that but medications really do help. If you can be calm for a few weeks to months everything will go back to normal. The anxiety levels will be down so that they are not problematic, muscles will heal, etc. best to speak with your doctor about all of this.

When I went into my doctor I had a list with st least 30 items on it, each of the symptoms I had and he knew pretty much straight away that it was anxiety and treated me for it. Within a short amount of time I began to feel better and went back to normal until recently when something happened that really set me off again. I’m repeating the process right now that worked for me before. You have to understand that overcoming anxiety is a commitment. You have to put in the work, meds help but you also have to learn to calm yourself and redirect your thoughts so that you stop scaring yourself and making things worse. It takes a while but with the right combination of medication, therapy, and self help you can do it.

I see, so, I never had much luck with muscle relaxers either, they never did a thing for me. The pain meds, again depending on what they gave you could be an issue here. One of the most common ones prescribed is tramadol, in my experience it does nothing for the pain and for me, it causes anxiety. That could be a big player here. I’m also curious what they gave you for anxiety that made you sick. Doctors hesitate to give the benzo medication because of the addiction risk so they hand out things like buspar which work for some but not for others (myself being one of them) these days it’s hard to get proper treatment for these things because of all of the red tape.

How long until you can get back into your doctors office? When you get there explain the anxiety to them, make them understand. Don’t just say “I hurt” tell them that you are terrified about it, be honest with them. Until then absolutely try the items I suggested, mindfulness, meditation, muscle relaxation, etc. it will help. If things get too bad go to the hospital. Don’t ever be embarrassed to seek help. The hospital won’t do much for anxiety but they can do some testing to make sure that there aren’t any physical problems and then they may give you something like Ativan to calm you down for the moment.

I wish you luck, I have been there and trust me mine got so bad that I didn’t even leave the house because I didn’t want to die in public. I knew that it was a matter of time before my heart finally failed or I had a stroke, or a ruptured artery, or something. I wouldn’t even take my kids anywhere because I didn’t want them to be stuck there by themselves when I died. It was serious, I’m telling you, you’re not alone. My mind had created all of those scenarios and I believed them so much that I sat around with chest pains and all kinds of other symptoms because I had created it. I can’t even count the number of hospital visits I made.

Ok basically I’ve been having the upper back pain when breathing for about 3 weeks and got scared it could be lung cancer then just recently for about a week now I’ve had pains in my pelvic area and legs and I’m scared it might be bone cancer which Ik a doctor said that’s unlikely but I’m still stressed about it that’s my biggest fear at the moment I’ve been given loads of different painkillers none have worked and two different ones for anxiety/depression and they both made me feel sick then I was given codeine tablets for pain but I’ve still got pain but still taking them and also the muscle relaxers none of which are helping I’m only young and I’m so scared it might be something serious which i don’t want I told a doctor two weeks ago and she wants to refer me to the respiratory department and pain management doctor yesterday I had a blood test done for a full blood count but now have to wait until two weeks to see the doctor I saw before and wait till Wednesday till I meet a therapist and still have not had any referral letters come through yet right now I’m just so scared that it might be my bones so I’m really anxious about that because I’m only young and want to get better

If you got x-ray's then I think you can rule that out my Fiancee's sister had lung cancer she had a pretty good sized lump taken out of her lung before receiving her x-ray she was having trouble breathing and getting sick with cold like symptoms a lot.

Whatever position is comfortable for you is fine just take it easy and give it more time to heal.

Thanks I’ve just been so scared especially with the pains I’ve also been getting in my legs and pelvic area they won’t go either just don’t know what to do to get better and stop worrying that it’s something serious

It’s crazy to think that your mind can do that how can you tell the difference though that’s the thing is it The anxiety or not and then you stress about that
