For those that want some good news...
I noticed about a year ago a growth near my belly button, about the size of a nickel in width and a 1/4 inch thick... Not really big. No pain, just happened to feel it when taking a shower one day.
It is hard/rubbery, I can squeeze on it and move it... no pain. It is movable to a point.
Obviously, freaked out.
Went to the doctor's office, they thought it was inflammation from an infection (I did have a belly button infection months prior, so maybe..??? ). Took anti-biotics, didn't work.
Doctor then ordered a ultrasound of the mass and region...
Benign Growth... no suspicious growths/abnormalities found in the area.
It is now a year later, it is still there and of course I started to freak out about it again. I went to another doctor (same chain clinic here in Houston) and asked for another look. She feels it, "plays" with it about a minute or two... nothing to worry about. Feels benign and looked at the ultrasound from prior. Stated I could get another ultrasound to compare it and if it has gotten bigger, we can schedule elective surgery to have it removed to make me feel better.
I have had many benign growths looked at. In middle school/high school I was in marching band and the pressure from the brass mouth pieces caused calluses on my gums. I have a small white growth on my bottom gum, biopsied and all.. benign. I have more on my top gums, not as large, but scattered. Been to the dentist plenty of times and screened for oral cancer... nothing.
What really scared me with these situations is the very real symptom that you can see and feel... its a growth that normally isn't there. That is scary... but every time I go get a test done or get something checked... I am okay...
I am okay... and you are too.
