Glaucoma fears after eye doctor visit. Is it still hypochondria?

I went to the optometrist yesterday because I haven't been in years. And basically my eyesight is fine, I only really need glasses if I do computer work

However, she said in one of my eyes the nerves behind the eye is slightly thin and that's something they're gonna look out for now in future visits in case it leads to glaucoma

But she said because of my age and I have no family history of it she's not really worried. And I don't need further testing on the eye. I could even go every two years between having my eyes checked and she thinks it would be fine. It's just something they have to look out for

But all I can think about is going blind in one eye and i can't focus on what the doctor said even after writing it down here

The really good news is that as long as you follow up as she suggested, there are meds and treatments that can take care of this, if by chance you eventually were diagnosed.

Yeah everyone is telling me not to worry about it if the doctor isn't. And just wait to see what they say again next year. But it's hard

I'm just imagining going instantly blind and having to wear an eye patch or something

Not the way that disease works. It’s very gradual, so as long as it’s monitored, such scenarios are avoidable. Maybe schedule a call or another visit with her to talk for a few minutes. That should ease your mind.
