Has anyone else experienced this? It started out when I was anxious sleeping one night where I would jolt up and not be breathing and I had to start thinking about breathing to be able to breathe right. Now it's gotten to the point to where if I'm relaxing and not occupied I will just not be breathing sometimes and I will get a body shock that like alerts me that I'm not breathing, it's so hard to explain. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Yes! I have experienced exactly this. I tend to hold my breath without noticing when I'm anxious. Even when I sleep! Then I wake up and it feels like my throat is closed off or my lungs are sucked in and like I'm suffocating and can't breathe. I saw a sleep specialist and they told me that I don't have sleep apnea and they felt it was anxiety in my casr. I also choke on my saliva when I'm very stressed. Both when I'm awake and when I'm asleep.

i have exactly felt this going to bed sometimes i’ll be falling asleep and i’ll have like a rush of adrenaline and then catching my breath like i wasn’t breathing and my heart is racing idk why this happens to me either but it’s weird. and then sometimes throughout the day when i’m working i have a hard time taking deep breaths and then i feel like i’m having a hard time breathing it’s so weird almost like i’m thinking too much about breathing and i have to re train myself to breathe without thinking about it lol

Thanks for all the replies everyone! Also I have experienced the waking up with adrenaline rushing from not breathing as well! Recently its been to where my body will start feeling strange like as if I randomly get light headed, but the feeling is in my arms or torso. It's almost like I'm just breathing so lightly that I start feeling weird or my body isn't with it fully. I'm not sure why that happens so much lately! So weird it's like my body feels like out of it and not breathing right.

Has anyone ever experienced this for long periods of time like throughout the entire day almost and days after? It has been happening for days now and I am continually light headed even when I don't notice that I am not breathing right. It feels like my arms and lims are light as well when I am not breathing right sometimes. Anyone else have this ongoing?

Absolutely. I find that even when my breathing has returned to normal after long periods like this, I'll still have a "hangover" and my chest will feel slightly tight or tender.

Crazy what anxiety can do to us! Lately I have been trying not to focus on it, but cannot tell at times if it is so bad because I am thinking about it or if it is so bad and that causes me to think about it. It's gotten to the point where even (sorry for graphic detail) sexual activity creates a bodily freeze where my body starts to feel like its clenching and tightening strongly and I lose all my breath. Anyone find that if you are able to get the focus off of breathing that it may actually stop all these problems?

Still going on today! Hoping it goes away and it really is just anxiety.

Don't worry about graphic details because I'll let you know I've been feeling the EXACT same way - I'm practically out of breath when it's over.

I'll tell you something else that might make you feel better, I went to see my doctor again for all this and they said everything is fine - my chest sounds good, vitals are where they should be. My doc told me the jolting awake is because we go to sleep anxious or out of breath - she compared anxiety to software. She said that when we go to sleep anxious, anxiety software is still running and it needs to be closed, we jolt awake because the anxiety software is starting to shut itself down but the way it does it is not the most ideal way.

She also says shallow breathing/hyperventilating happens because we're indulging in our triggers (in my case, rare diseases and Rona) and thinking about worst case scenarios or our anxiety software is subtly running in the background and its causing very subtle panic and that influences our breathing without us even being aware of it until it's too late.
