I didn't see a thread about gaming, so I thought I would try and create one to see if I could get some conversations going between those here that are into video games. I guess this is also a way for me to try and meet some new people, maybe make a friend or two that also have a love for video games. I don't want to have this be a thread about any one specific gaming subject so there can be more variety, so feel free to post your favorite or least favorite games, what you are currently playing, or just anything at all related to video games.

I've been playing my Wii U a lot lately, trying to get as close as I can to 100% completion on a couple of games, and I started with Xenoblade Chronicles X. I beat the main story a couple years ago and just sort of quit playing even though there is a lot of stuff to do in the game, so I wanted to try and finish what I didn't do before. It took a very long time, my total play time is just over 400 hours, but I think I finally achieved 100% which wasn't easy. I'm trying to finish Breath of the Wild now, and have put a lot of time into that too. I haven't discovered every single location on the map (my map completion is 62.18% apparently), and don't have all of the korok seeds (just enough for the upgrades), but I've done pretty much everything else. Even though I have a lot of games I haven't even started yet I'm not sure what I will play next.

Picking favorite games would be hard, though I think my favorite games are most likely from the Zelda series. I love RPGs more than any game genre, and probably have more RPGs than other types of games (I think I once counted around 70 of them in my collection). I've been a fan of the Sims series since the original, though I don't play those much lately. I also really love the Shenmue games, and I've been waiting a long time for a third game. I've always been a fan of the GTA games and anything similar, I even tried GTA 5 online though I never get anywhere in online multiplayer games. They may be buggy and full of glitches, but I still love the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games. I'm not a big fan of shooters, especially first person shooters, though there are some I really like including the Metroid Prime series.

Well guess I've said enough for now, but hopefully there are some other gamers out there that will post here too. I'm not really a social person, but I will try and reply if I see something I can reply to. Also if anyone wants to message me directly and talk about games that would be nice too, again I'm not the most social person but I'll try my best.

@janemariesayed

I have actually never heard of Throne Kingdom at War, though I did look it up to see what sort of game it was. RTS games have never been my thing, though maybe if I gave them more of a chance I might like them. I doubt I could play an online one though since playing with strangers is almost impossible.

@Jenniferlynn

Did you just recently start playing that? I hope you're enjoying it. What kind of character do you have? It was something I used to play in the past, though played alone almost all the time so I never accomplished much.

Here's what was my best character if anyone is interested: https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/character/elune/leeta

Seems it's showing my character with no worn armor, and lists me in a guild that I am apparently no longer a part of. Basically everything I have is from playing on my own, and I quit playing since I had no friends to play with and struggle playing with strangers.

I only just started playing it. I have my own Order where I've passed the running of it onto someone else (2 others) so I can sit back a bit and just enjoy the play. Trouble is though I get bored easily with games. I like that there is a chat section on there where we can all talk. I prefer to read or write stories than to play but I do normally have one game or another playing. I like the city building games too.

Have you ever tried a Sims game? It sounds like something you might enjoy. They're all single player games so no chatting with other players (not that I know of anyway), but it might be something good for you. If you like to write stories then you could play out your own story within the games, and of course since you say you like city building games you might enjoy the building aspects of a Sims game too. You don't always have to be in control of things either since the characters you play as can do things on their own, so sometimes you can just sit back and watch what they do.

I'm really into old school games, and I think it's because of nostalgia since I grew up with Plug and Play versions of arcade games; though for some reason I suck at all the retro games I have. Currently I have a mini SNES and I really like Kirby Superstar, Megaman X, and Contra III. :)

Edit: I also like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, but I'm stuck and I really don't wanna cheat.

There is Super Mario World and the original Starfox which I really want to like but I completely blow at both of them!

I'm not into RPGs or fighter games mainly because I don't get anything!

I have a Nintendo switch on it's way as well (with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild), which might be good for a bit of modern 3D in my life. I'll be blown away for sure!

The only 3D I've had was a Nintendo 64 and a Nintendo DS. I was obsessed with Super Mario 64 until I watched a creepypasta about it which obliterated all the fun.

So, yeah, I'm a Nintendo fan. :p

Old school games are usually harder, so I have a feeling it's not that you suck but that the games are harder. They didn't hold your hand as much as modern games do, and to be fair some older games were hard because of design flaws and not because they were meant to be hard. Then again when you had like 3 lives and died in one hit that really sucked.

What part are you stuck on in A Link to the Past? If you get too stuck don't be afraid to use a guide, I wouldn't consider it cheating if you just can't figure it out on your own.

I still have an original version of Star Fox and could never play it when I was younger, then a few years ago I decided to play it again and somehow managed to finish it. Super Mario World isn't too bad compared to most games, though it does have some pretty hard sections like the secret levels you can unlock.

Hmm what do you mean you don't get anything? I liked fighters when I was younger, then as I got older I realized I was terrible at them and was just mashing buttons. The only one I will really play is Smash Bros, but only because of the Nintendo characters though I still suck. "The winner is..." not me haha.

For someone that doesn't play a lot of 3D games, Breath of the Wild could be tough. It isn't all that easy, and might take a while to get used to, but I found it to be a lot of fun. There are two things I want to point out that I didn't like, and that a lot of people didn't like about it. Weapons breaking, and rain. Your weapons, bows and shields have durability and can break which can be kind of annoying, especially early when you can't carry much. Rain sucks, trust me it sucks. One thing you seem to do a lot of in this game is climbing, but when it rains it's almost impossible to climb. Oh and when in a thunderstorm, don't use metal items because lightning sucks too.

There is a creepypasta for The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask that is pretty creepy too, though I won't say anything about it in case you ever decide to play that game.

Hmm, maybe you're right about older games being harder, because I only managed to beat a single game (Kirby Superstar) out of the whole collection and the rest I barely pass level 1, but I finished and replayed my entire Nintendo DS library. The d-pad is also significantly stiffer on my mini SNES than on my worn out DS so that could play a minor part.

In A Link to The Past, I'm stuck on the dungeon leading to the first boss, at least that's what I think it is. It's that "where do I go?" kind of situation. I was actually pretty close to the boss but I died and forgot everything since I was going all over and gave up. Guides are really helpful but I sometimes over read and spoil the plot for myself. I should try to read it anyway.

As for RPGs, I don't understand the different moves like "defense" or "special moves/magic" and other similar stuff. What do they actually do? Does it affect my character or hit points? Where would I need to use these other options? Why are there so many options to just attack?, etc. I just blindly mash different "attack" options and hope for the best, which isn't fun at all and RPGs are known for strategies. Same thing goes for fighter games. Just mash buttons.

Breath of the Wild... durability? Ugh, I hate it when weapons and armor have that (cough Minecraft). Such a waste of time and material to create new ones. Oh, well, hopefully the rain isn't too annoying. Lightning is going to suck big time. I wouldn't mind it too much if it wasn't a one-hit-kill. Luckily it shows you lightning's gonna hit so a jumpscare won't happen.

And don't worry, I already read the Ocarina of Time creepypasta a couple years ago. The Mario 64 one I saw when I was quite younger and very gullible, heck I didn't even want to breathe near the cartridge for a couple of days. That face the moon has is far more creepy than what I've read, that's for sure! :p

Some of those older games are all about memorization too, things like remembering where enemies are or other hazards to avoid. I bet if you played some of those other games enough you would start to get better at them. Even if you played a DS game with harder difficulty, things like being able to save or other features makes it easier. For example In the past if you died too much then a lot of times you had to start all over, but now most games don't make you do that and you just pick up where you left off. Sounds like you need to wear out that d-pad a little. :p

The site called Zelda Dungeon seems to have spoiler free guides, maybe try that. If I knew exactly which dungeon it was I would help, though try that site or search for other spoiler free guides if you need to.

RPGs take a lot of patience, and you really have to learn what you're doing when playing one. Some games give really nice details and information about everything and what it all does, though you still have to figure out the best times to use it. Haha, just mash buttons, that's definitely me with fighting games.

You can find weapons and shields all over in Breath of the Wild. Most enemies drop whatever weapon they're using, plus you can find them just sitting around at times too. There's a display on screen that shows the weather forecast, if I see it's going to rain I make sure I do something that doesn't need climbing. Finding a lit campfire or cooking pot and waiting at them seems to change weather too, though obviously if those aren't protected from the rain you won't be getting any fire to wait at.

Lighting can be avoided pretty easily actually. Like I said, don't use metal equipment in a storm because it becomes a lightning rod. Clothing is okay for some reason, though weapons and shields get struck. When you see that indication that you will be struck, go into your inventory and unequip any metal weapons or shield. During a storm you can look at your items in the inventory and see what will attract lightning, there will be bolts of electricity flashing on them. You can also get an item eventually that makes you lightning proof. Oh and enemies get struck too, and you can use it to your advantage.

If you've seen the one called "Ben drowned" then it's the same Zelda one I was talking about. Maybe you could link me to the Mario one since I don't think I've ever seen that. Haha that moon is pretty creepy looking, so is that mask salesman too.

That is true, I have seen old school games where they explain very little and you have to figure it out yourself. Now they tell you with diagrams and examples, but games nowadays tend to be more complex than ever so I think we deserve a break.

I just received my Switch along with Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8, and I am completely mind blown! I'm very hooked on both. Right now I'm trying to get to the shrine in a winter land (BOTW) so the old man can finally tell me stuff, and it's pretty challenging. Thanks for the tips by the way! Durability isn't as big a problem as I thought. The gameplay and graphics compared between Mario Kart 64 and MK8 made my mouth drop!

Speaking of N64, here's the link to the creepypasta, enjoy:

Most older games didn't say a thing unless you read the instructions, even then it was just basic controls sometimes. Now though there are tutorials for everything. "Press up on the control stick to move forward"... I think when you see things like that then modern tutorials are a little too much though haha.

I'm glad you seem to be enjoying them, they are both really fun games. With BotW Some people seem to think the durability is so horrible, and yeah it can totally suck, but it's completely manageable if you are careful and know what you're doing. Sounds like you are still at the Great Plateau, just wait until you leave that place then the world gets so much bigger haha. Since you need to be in a cold area, here's a tip about the environment. Since some places are either too hot or cold for normal clothing, there is clothing meant just for those areas. However, you can also use weapons too. Like for example if you had a fire weapon equipped while in a cold area it would help keep you warm, or a torch (or wooden weapon) set on fire will do it too though sometimes a weapon on it's own isn't enough. I won't say much more about BotW, because to me part of the fun was discovering the various different ways to approach situations. I think if you discover those on your own it would be much better than me spoiling it. So enjoy BotW! There is a lot to see and a lot to do in that game, and if it's blown your mind so far I think it will be even more blown once you keep playing.

Thank you for the link. Honestly I think that could have been better, especially the ending. If that was me I would have made more use of where they said there was no game over screen, mixing that with the family picture they kept talking about. They said at the end that the family was just skeletons in the picture, I would have done something more with that too. Like maybe say that the Game Over image popped up on the picture as the skeletons collapsed into pieces, as if it were saying that it was the end for the family, then end it with that laugh that Bowser does when you die.
