(I wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Sorry if it's in the wrong place )

So I had a psych appointment today. This is the 3rd time I've seen this doctor and I like him pretty well so far. I've been on effexor and abilify for years now, and while they do seem to help somewhat, I'm more stable on them than off them, they're not helping nearly enough. I was on the 150mg dose of effexor until about a month ago when my doc increased it to 225. (Still on 20mg abilify) I still dont feel like its helping enough or maybe not in the right way. My doctor wants me to stay on it for another 3 weeks though just to make sure.

I'm so frustrated at how slow this progress is. I feel so helpless as Bipolar and anxiety keep trampling over my life while I just have to wait it out for another 3 weeks. I know I'll get there eventually but right now it's so, so hard.

If it was going to work any better it would have done so by now. Most medication take 4 to 6 weeks. 3 months is long enough to know if it is working right or not. I am at a loss as to what the doctor expects to change in the next 3 weeks. I feel like you will be going back to him and telling him the exact same thing. It is not doing enough. Simply might be time for a change in medication. Just a case of do your best for the next 3 weeks. If that means making a new post every day, then do that. Because I seriously can't see what will change with the medication at all. You can only do the best you can over the next 3 weeks. We are here for you for support.

I think I may have worded something unclearly. I've been on effexor for years but the dosage was recently upped. That happened about a month ago. And I dont feel like its helping much if at all. I agreed to wait 3 more weeks to see if the increased dose will start helping.

Edit: thank you for the offer of support. I have a feeling I'm gonna be needing it.

Now the extra 3 weeks makes a bit more sense. Just to see will the new dose kick in with good effect. ( I do believe I may have read it wrong in the first place, after reading it again ) So you have been on the new dose a month? That is 4 weeks. With that medication it can take up to 6 weeks to see any changes. That is the target for the doctor. We can only hope all goes well.
