Fear of the dentist during COVID

I started getting intermittent tooth pain back in April. To make a long story short, 14 dental visits later, I got three teeth pulled. I switched to a different dentist closer to home who told me I have 6 cavities (previous dentist would never discuss cavities, only pulls ). She filled one about a month ago.

Now I’m having sensitivity around the area of the filling again and this whole thing has given me such anxiety. Every time I went to the dentist, I PANICKED for 2 weeks thinking I’d catch covid from there. Because of the surge in cases and since Thanksgiving just passed, it’s on my mind constantly that I’m going to have to go back. The sensitivity is driving me crazy but I’m literally petrified to go. I always take the first appointment and they know how I am so they are very accommodating but... is my fear irrational?

I think a lot of people are not going to appointments because of Covid. Here in Ireland they are urging people to keep appointments. They are guessing come the end of Covid there will be a lot of issues with some people because they never went for certain appointments. you are not the only person with a fear of going to such places. Very common at the moment.

Go to the dentist. They'll be taking necessary precautions to protect patients the best they can. I've been to the dentist twice since the pandemic started, and I'm seeing an oral surgeon on Jan 4. I did have some initial anxiety about it, because of the virus, but I've since decided to not let it run my life.
