Fear of lymphoma

I've had night sweats on and off, for several years. Way past menopause. I have had thyroid issues, which I know can cause night sweats (hyper or hypo), and had feared this outcome before. Last night, had 2 in the night that required changing pillowcases (always head and neck), and have decided "this time it's real."
I'm so tired of this. Long history of this phobic thinking, since 4th grade. Just needed to write this out where someone might read it. 65 years, just walked 5.3 miles today. Getting over bad allergies or little cold. No fatigue, definitely no weight loss! Thanks for this place to put these words.

I’ve had the lymphoma fear also. Just a week ago I had a lymph node in front of my ear that swelled to the size of a kidney bean and had night sweats the whole week. I took antibiotics and it’s all but gone now. I think if you had lymphoma then your whole body would sweat and not just your head. Also, you would probably have other signs that something was amiss. I’m not a doctor and don’t claim to know everything there is to know about lymphoma. And also, I’m telling you this and it’s coming from a place of understanding and knowing the fear you have is very real. I suffer with HA too. Health anxiety is no joke! It drains the life out of you. If I were you I would go speak with a doctor about what you have going on and if you’re not on anxiety meds maybe speak to them about trying something. Hoping and praying for the best for you! :)

Hi and welcome lesliembe. I'm 66 and deal with night sweats, same thing, head and neck a few times a week. I envy your ability to walk so far. Like Mandy says, it doesn't sound like lymphoma but that's the strength HA has, making one think of the absolutely worst case scenario for any symptoms. Again, welcome, and I believe "this time it's not real".

Hi lesliembe!! I am a total newbie when it comes to anxiety, HA to be exact. I’ve only dealt with mine for about a year now. I am only 23, but have experienced the fear of lymphoma as well. I had a lymph node on my neck puff up one day and went into total panic mode. Night sweats and for me, stomach problems as well. I was only diagnosed with a “sinus infection”...and of course since I have HA my thoughts after were “This was a missed diagnosis...This is definitely cancer.”
You are not alone in this fight! It often feels that way for me; however, I just try to remind myself that this forum was created for a reason. There are a whole lot of us who are having these scary symptoms. You will be okay even though sometimes it doesn’t seem like it. Keep fighting it!!

Night sweats can be a symptoms of several things in addition to lymphoma. I woudl say based on the fact thatyou have had these in the past, you have plenty of strenght (no fatique), etc. that is it HIGHLY unlikely that lymphoma is the cause.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I'm going for a physical next week, and haven't had one since I posted. They are very infrequent. I have a life history of this kind of fear that pops up once in awhile. Glad to have this place to put it out there.

The great thing about this place is you can share your "fears" and anxieties without worry of being judged
