Exposure Therapy

    Hi all.

    I have a question for members here who have gone through this.

    I'm looking into exposure therapy for my dental phobia. Has anyone here used it before or is anyone able to explain it to me?

    Otherwise are there other types of therapy to help you overcome the phobia?

    I really feel trapped right now. I need to find a way to start overcoming this not just go on an appointment by appointment basis because that isn't working.

    this is exactly what it is. Everytime I get into a car, i'm doing exposure therapy. The trick is to find dastractions . I play games on my cell phone. I also do breathing exercises and a little trick that I stumbled upon accidentally. Take your index finger and your middle finger, tap your eyebrow while counting to ten this was weird.. I think this may be some sort of special pressure point. Not really sure. I just know that it worked for me. Also . If all else fails.. ask them to sedate you before the procedure.

    There is an actual Tapping therapy so what you are doing isn't weird at all.

    I tried it years ago to attract money to me but I can't remember if it worked or not. It works a bit like acupuncture. It wasn't a therapy that really registered with me, though. I forgot about it soon after I saw it and you've just reminded me now! A gentleman has posted under this video that EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is one of the most effective cures for abuse and PTSD. It says there is a website called EFTUniverse.com I have only had a wee look on the home page but it looks pretty good. There is lots of information on tapping and how to do it properly. Well done Concernedgal, I had forgotten all about this! :rolleyes: thanks for the reminder.

    I think I would much rather do this than exposure therapy. Although, :D Sorry to be crass, but my problem is sexual abuse, ha ha, I can't really imagine authorities agreeing to exposure therapy for that! :D:eek::DIt is a known fact, though, say for example someone was in a car accident, the best thing is to get back into the car asap and go somewhere. Or if someone was to fall off a horse, the best thing is to get back on it straightaway before the fear has time to set in.

    I was in town 1 day . My husband and I were at a stop light . When all of a sudden here it comes ,that feeling of lightheadedness and nervousness. All I wanted to do was get back home . I always just want to be home. Anyway, out of nervous energy ,I guess , something just told me to tap my left eyebrow and it worked, I was surprised. I mean it wasn't a cure all or anything but, it helped.
