Hello. First time post. I’ve dealt with anxiety for approximately 20 years now. I definitely believe it can manifest itself in many ways. Lately, my left ear has been burning at least once a day. My blood pressure is controlled, however, it has been slightly elevated for about 2 weeks. I feel some of the increase is due to overthinking and fear of what “might” be wrong.

Has anyone ever been told burning ears can be caused by anxiety?

Did the ear burn before the anxiety? Or did the anxiety cause the burning? Like was there a specific event that worked you up to the point that this started happening?

What sucks about anxiety is that it can manifest in so many ways. I personally deal with horrific digestive issues. But I also went through a period 4-5 years ago where my panic attacks were so bad that I had heart attack symptoms for months. Shooting pain in arms, chest pain, heart palpitations, half my face was completely numb, the whole works. All from panic.

Not sure if you have insurance or a primary care doctor, but if you do, just going in for a quick check up might ease your anxiety. Sometimes you gotta prove to yourself “I’m not dying” to feel better (I know I do)!

***HI. THANKS FOR THE REPLY. THE ANXIETY IS USUALLY BREWING INSIDE ME AND I CAN SOMETIMES SEE MY EAR START TO GET RED OR I FEEL IT BURNING. I WOULD SAY IT’S NOT TRIGGERED BY AN EVENT.

***HONESTLY, WHAT YOU’VE DESCRIBED SOUNDS BRUTAL. 4-5 YEARS WAS A LONG TIME FOR THAT. SO, DO YOU PRIMARILY DEAL WITH DIGESTIVE ISSUES NOW? THE MOST COMMON WAY IT AFFECTS ME COULE BE DESCRIBED AS AN INTERNAL JITTERINESS. MY MIND IS LIKE A RUNAWAY TRAIN, CURRENTLY. DO YOU WORRY? IT IS MIND BOGGLING AS TO HOW MANY WAYS IT CAN MANIFEST.

***I HAVE INSURANCE BUT NOT A PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR. I JUST TURNED 50 AND PLAN ON GETTING A PCP AND HAVING AGE APPROPRIATE ROUTINE SCREENINGS. IN ALL HONESTY, I HAVE AVOIDED GOING TO A DOCTOR - NOT SMART I KNOW.

OVERALL, ANXIETY IS A BEAST. AGAIN, THANKS FOR THE REPLY. THIS IS MY VERY FIRST REPLY SO I’M SORRY I DIDN’T COPY THE QUOTES THE RIGHT WAY. I’LL LEARN.

Yes, I definitely deal with digestive issues, everyday of my life. And as far as “worry”. I am worried constantly. About real life things and about stupid scenarios that my brain makes up. Most of my life I spend with that worried panicky feeling in my chest.

I wouldn’t be overly concerned about the ear if it’s been happening for a long time. But it’s always good to go see a doctor, that way, a professional can tell you to stop worrying about it. If they aren’t worried, then you shouldn’t be worried.

You did great with your response!

So, do most of us on here worry? I see a psychiatrist 4 times yearly and she describes mine as obsessive worry. I deal with OCD as well. It’s not extreme, however, that’s not to say it doesn’t cause grief.
