It is calming and takes you to a relaxed, peaceful state, that is one of the thing that I use to like about it. The fact that there are other effects that was not good for me made me stop as well as the fact that I was going down the pregnancy route. I have now touched it since.

Like any medication it has to be taken in the right dose, not only that but the way it is administered is very important. If it's smoked it will have the same side effects as tobacco does.

Now a days they even have marijuana drinks like that of energy drinks. It's really popular. They even got chocolates with canabis in them. Recreational Marijuana is a big business. Every year a new State has allowed legalized Marijuana.
They have really come a long way since they legalised medical marijuana in certain states. The idea that the only way that you can have marijuana is to smoke it should be put to the side for good. There are far better ways of having it. The methods you mentioned are just a handful of ways among many. It really depends what the marijuana is for and should be administered accordantly.

Of course, but like coffee and alcohol, can be pretty much addictive. Good thing is not a life threatening drug, is impossible to die of overdose by smoking weed. And as long as you consume it with moderation, it can really helps to cope with anxiety issues. Carl Sagan was a pothead for example, and It didn't stop him from becoming a successful astronomer.

I used to smoke weed when my anxiety was a lot worse than it is now. I think it's a really good thing for some people to try, but it might not be for everyone. I had a friend that had a panic attack the first time he got high, and I had to calm him down while I was also high. Not a fun experience.

If you don't have any negative reactions to it, though, it's an absolutely amazing thing for anxiety. I find that I am a lot more composed and talkative while I am high, since I end up barely caring about what other people think of them. Honestly, I can't even tell what's going on half the time so I kind of just roll through conversations without thinking. I also find that I'll be less anxious all around for a few days after I get high, which is super good too. I try not to use weed too often, though, because I feel like it makes me really lazy, and hurts my short term memory for a week or two.

Doesn't weed make you relaxed and spaced out? So wouldn't that help reduce anxiety? I'd be interested to hear from those who have tried it.
I smoked a lot of weed for majority of my teenage years. I'd say it doesn't.

For example, if your tolerance is low and you get really high, you'll experience heightened senses which could actually trigger anxiety. I've seen people experience panic attacks on weed, especially casual users who smoke too much.

When I was a regular smoker, honestly, my self esteem was at it's lowest, and I would get paranoid often. Those are a couple of reasons why I quit actually.

If I we're you, don't use it to help with anxiety.

I would advice to control your anxiety problems without weed, if you want to try it that's fine but it won't fix the anxiety, when under the influence getting anxious could be a very bad thing because you actually feel like your panic attack will never end.

I'm a casual smoker myself so this doesn't come from a judgemental place but when I feel down or anxious I know for a fact that this is the worst time to smoke and would never do it.

Honestly it depends on what strain it is and how you as an individual react to it. Smoking weed does help with my anxiety, but it can too easily become a crutch. I've gotten some strains of weed that do nothing but make my anxiety sky rocket. Do research and consult a dispensary if you have one in your area. They will be well versed in what strains work the best for the majority of people.

It really just depends on the person. I know for some people it just makes it worse and for some people it helps. For me it kinda had both effects. Like for a few minutes I'd be paranoid and then for a little bit I'd be totally fine.

Sadly though after I had a week of bad derealization (I still don't know what caused it) weed has no effect on me anymore. My theory is my body learned how to fight off that feeling but I don't really know what it is.

In my country, weed is banned. I don't feel like turning to weed in any situation. I wouldn't want to use something labelled as a drug just to calm myself. I prefer to use natural or organic solutions to solve my anxiety. I do not wish to use something that I may find myself addicted to; using them not to calm down but because I'm addicted; weed and cigarettes. I stay away from those. My opinion is not to rely on such substances, but use natural solutions. A simple search on the internet reveals hundreds of ways to calm down.

I am so happy I saw this thread. Weed does NOT help(well in my case). I become paranoid and my anxiety levels are just off the chart. I can't sit here and say everyone will respond the same way but that was a scary experience for me, especially the first time, the second time I had brownies and it wasn't as bad as smoking it but it's best to overcome it without it.

My husband is connected to the movie industry and sometimes I join the film shooting. There were instances where I see the actors smoking marijuana. Since they are comfortable with me, I asked them what benefit it gives them. One actor said that smoking weed has a calming effect. It is not easy to act in front of the camera and one can have anxiety with that. But with the smoke, he feels more comfortable and he can act more natural. But honestly, I haven't tried it yet simply because it illegal. I'm afraid that I can be arrested and can go to jail for that simple mistake. Even my husband had never smoked weed for the same reason that it is illegal. But I have to agree that we would try marijuana when it becomes legal here.

I have smoked weed before, and it never made me anxious, and I never smoked it when I felt anxious. But upon searching a bit, it seems like it does help people with anxiety, but only in small levels though. You can simply google it for further info.

I think this definitely up to the individual themselves. It helped me a lot mostly because I had anxiety based on my body's response to things. Usually, I worry about one thing or another and then that gets my pulse up and I get sweaty, breathing is labored. So then I go into almost panic attack mode because I can't control my body. Smoking weed kind of makes all that calm down for me. I've never been paranoid before, during, or after smoking weed so I guess I'm lucky. I would have to say that self-medicating has nothing on actual medicine though. I take Klonopin and it has helped immensely, even if it does make me sleepy.

I think this comes down to each persons unique body chemistry. Myself, when I have smoked marijuana (and we are talking like 10-15 years ago) it made me very anxious and I did not like the feeling at all. On the other hand, I do have several friends that swear by it and actually use it as an anti-anxiety med. So the best I can come up with is each of us will react slightly different, and what may be an effective medicine for one, may be ineffective or downright harmful for another. I would be interested in some others stories on how effective they think marijuana is.

I think this would 100% depend on you and your specific body chemistry. Weed has been known to help with anxiety, though it is illegal in my state still, so I have never tried it. If it is legal where you live, then you could always ask your doctor and see what they think.

The effects of marijuana are different for everyone. Some say it helps and others say it made them 10x worse. It's because of this why there really is no right or wrong answer on whether it would be helpful for anxiety or not, as it effects everyone in different ways. One thing worth mentioning though is that marijuana is such an incredibly diverse plant that helps with a large range of different illnesses whether they're physical or mental, and scientists are discovering new things about it everyday! There are certain strains of pot that are specifically made/grown to counteract the feelings of anxiety. Just as there are certain kinds of strains that provide pain relief for different parts of the body. Marijuana is such an amazing plant and it is dissapointing that some will go their entire lives saying weed doesn't work for them, when really they didn't try a strain that would adhere to their wants and needs. It all leads down to misinformation but bottom line is that marijuana has a myriad of different uses and advantages and without a doubt provides anxiety relief to some people.

I wouldn't advise any non-smoker to start smoking weed just because it might help them with their anxiety. I would rather deal with anxiety than damage my lungs. Not only do you damage your lungs with tar more than cigarettes do, you also gain an increased risk of heart attacks while being high. Feel free to google the other risks. Bottom line is that it is not worth it to start smoking. Find a different solution.

Naturally, as an anti-depressant, it does. However, it is not the best option to turn to since it has bad side effects. Or should I say, it has more bad side effects than others. You might also become engulfed in the habit and affect not only yourself, but others around you.

I think it can help, but relying on it as a long term solution if probably not the thing to do. It is just one of the things that might work but might not be the best long term solution. It is just a "crutch" if you will like alcohol, food, video games or other things that might be short term solutions for a long term problem. It may not be bad for everyone, but it is for juvenilles for sure.
