Discomfort when eating

I experience a burning sensation when I eat...not after I eat, like with normal heartburn, but during. And usually, it's when I eat something acidic, such as fruit. Which sucks, because I love fruit. I know part of it is due to my hiatal hernia (when part of the stomach pushes up into the esophagus). I'm already on prescription medication for acid reflux, so my heartburn never gets that bad (bothers me if I eat a little too late at night, but nothing serious.) But this experience of a burning sensation while I eat seems unusual. I haven't been able to find much information online...the best I can do is more generalized information on acid reflux, which I'm already aware that I have, but nothing about my specific symptoms.

These symptoms aren't exactly new for me...they tend to go away for a while and then return. Lately, they've come back. In the past when I've experienced them, it's driven me to get an endoscopy...I've so far had two in my life. I worry about things like esophageal cancer, but I don't know what my doctor will say if I request yet another endoscopy, especially since I've already had two of them in my lifetime where nothing serious was found...thank god...but the last one was about three years ago. I worry how many times this can occur before it does develop into something more serious. I believe it has to be causing some kind of damage.

Anyone else ever experience these symptoms, or are they really that unusual? Should I be this concerned?

It does sound like classic GERD. I experience this occasionally as well, and I've fought with GERD for several years. I was on a prescription PPI (Protonix 40mg for two years) until 2018. Now I just take Tums as needed, and try to be mindful of what I eat/drink. I have periods (but not terribly often) when I experience reflux every day, but most of the time I have minimal or no reflux at all.
