Comparing sides of body?

Hi everyone. My health anxiety makes me do this weird thing where i’ll compare the sides of my body. Like if my right hand feels weird i’ll compare it to my left and see if i can find any differences. i’m not sure what information i’m hoping to get by doing this, but i do it pretty often. Also sometimes i’ll compare the temperatures of my hands and if one is colder than the other it frightens me. I just think this is a very odd thing to do and i’m wondering if anyone else does this or has any thoughts.

Hi dtown. Anxiety makes us kinda quirky. I catch myself grinding my teeth during the day. My morning routine generally has to be followed or I'll have a high-anxiety day. OCD is an anxiety disorder that makes sufferers HAVE to do certain routines or attain a level of perfection in order to deal with their anxiety. I'm not saying you've got OCD. I think you've just developed a regimen that helps you deal with your anxiety. You're not hurting anything, you're not "weird" because of it and if it get's too uncomfortable, you'll do what you can to break the habit.

Hey thanks so much for the reply :) Yeah I’ve definitely developed some quirks since my anxiety started. I want to break the habit because nobody’s body is 100% symmetrical so it doesn’t really make sense for me to use that to determine whether something is wrong with me or not. Thanks for your support!

I've always been amazed how rational we can think at times and then be buffaloed by the thinking and feelings our anxiety can produce.

I do something very similar dtown kind of as a way to comfort myself! Most recently I’ve felt that only half my abdomen has been distended after I saw some perceived distortion in the mirror so I’m constantly feeling my abdomen and checking things in the mirror. A few months ago I was rubbing my neck and felt lumps so I was obsessively feeling the other side to see if it’s symmetrical. It’s hard to accept that your body can be different sometimes and it’s not a serious illness

Very true. Health anxiety definitely causes me to notice minuscule changes and sensations in/ on my body, and I'm sure you can relate! I guess we just need to learn to convince ourselves that everything isn't that serious. I'm sure your abdomen and neck are in good condition lol. I hope everything looks up for you
