I’ve had burning scalp and skin for 3 weeks after leaving hair dye on too long. My doc thinks it’s anxiety or the nerves in the scalp are having polyneuropathy so she started me on lexapro. I was on 5mg for 7 days and started 10mg today. It made my burning worse all over my body. Could feel the burn travel from scalp to legs. I called doc and she told me to stop taking it. I have Xanax to help. I am sure freaked out about all this burning sensations. Sometimes it feels like someone pokes me with a toothpick in my scalp. I took more b12 drops and that made it worse. I’m not going to take anymore lexapro. Please, can someone tell me why the burning is relentless. It’s making me even more anxious and want to jump out of my skin. I feel very fragile. Please can someone offer advice. Thank you.

Are we sure it was the hair dye? Products like that, if they do cause such burning only burn for a much shorter period of time,. But if you still think it was the hair dye the burning could be gotten rid of by using a moisturizing conditioner, shampoo along with applying soothing solutions and creams. That alone would clear up any burning from hair dye. If none of that works I am guessing it would be something else. I would look for a secondary cause.

Yes, thank you so much. I used all kind of conditioners. Oils, etc. I was told that the hair dye can sometimes cause polyneurophy when affecting the scalp and burning the nerves so to speak. The dermatologist gave me a liquid steroid which didn’t help. So doc thinks it’s may be more of an anxiety thing. This burning came on out of nowhere after I colored my hair. So my anxiety is now at a high level due to the burning. Perhaps those nerves just need to heal. It’s very difficult as stress seems to bring it on even worse. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
