Ive been a good sleeper when im not anxious however i have restless leg syndrome and it never really bothered me until two nights ago when i couldnt sleep because i kept thinking ill never sleep again because of it. Im on vacay and its ruining me. Im almost at the verge of tears and crippled with anxiety and i want to feel normal about sleeping again.

Not getting enough sleep can leave you worn out. What do I do? I never ever try and force sleep. If it is on your mind, chances are you will try to force yourself to sleep. That simply doesn't work. You will be more awake than ever before. You will start to get frustrated. More with yourself than anything else. This won't help anything at all. I like a radio on. Something to distract my mind. At night, in the dark, when it is quiet, we have more time for the mind to think. Try and find something that will simply help you relax first. Once you find out how to relax, sleep will simply happen by itself. Try not to get frustrated and worked up. That will only make things worse for you.

I spent about 6 months with sleep anxiety so I get it. Xanax can help for bad episodes but obviously not a long term fix. My therapist gave me some good advice: realize the world won't end if you don't get back to sleep. If you have to go to work/take care of kids/etc. without a night of sleep, it will suck. But you will do it and get through it. Try not to internalize your own rules that make you anxious about not sleeping.

Try the US Navy Seals trick. They are under extreme stress and have short breaks in-between to sleep. They are taught to count backwards from 200 and visualize the numbers to help them fall asleep fast.

I use the techique when my brain is busy thinking too much and it works for me.

I suffer from Anxiety Insomnia and it's horrible. I use to take Xanax to help me sleep which worked great then I wanted to take them all the time just so I didn't have to deal with constant anxiety.

I still can't meditate but these are the thing's that I've tried some are more effective than others.

The irony of it is you get anxious about not being able to sleep which in turn gives you anxiety which makes it even harder to fall asleep it's like some ****** up circle.
