Stage fright is a common fear and those of us with anxiety have a tendency to have this fear amplified compared to most people. As an actor with anxiety I can tell you it’s totally normal. I usually only get that way when I forget a line or say one wrong or if I’m at an audition, but it happens none the less. My advice would be for you to find more opportunities to speak in front of a crowd, even if it’s something as simple as a local play. Keep putting yourself out there and that feeling will be more manageable during times when it counts like a school project.

Also that whole “just imagine the audience is in their underwear” thing isn’t true in my experience. A better way to approach it is to pretend the audience isn’t there. It also helps if you don’t put any pressure on yourself, I find that my best speeches and auditions have been ones where I didn’t care if I failed or succeeded. That sounds bad, but trust me it works. We put so much pressure on ourselves to perform well on stage, but the only times an audience notices you messed up is if you react to it or point it out. Our own nerves have a tendency to betray us. So keep doing you and put yourself out there more.
