Antidepressant with Buspirone

Has anyone taken these? I had my fluoextine increased from 40 to 60 mg and the doctor added 5mg twice a day of the Buspirone. I have taken the Buspirone for 4 days and still feel anxious. Do I need to give it more time? Could the anxiety be caused from the fact that I have not taken it for that long?

Buspar one is not a fast acting anti anxiety med. it works like an anti depressant, taking several weeks to build in the system. You must take the med every day as directed or it will not be effective. As I said, it is not a fast acting drug, it is not in the same class of drugs as Xanax or Valium.

So after giving it time to build up in my system it will work? I guess I thought it would work like hydroxyzine, immediately. So the anxiety is because I have not given the right amount of time for it to work?

The anxiety is because you have anxiety. Nothing any different except your state of mind. I’m surprised your doctor didn’t explain how Buspirone works. It is not like taking a fast acting med and the effects are not the same as others. No zombie like state, no drowsiness, etc. The one thing I can say about it for certain is it makes my head clearer. I’m on a low dose now, tapering off as my anxiety has lessened with practicing acceptance.
