So, will the release of the new iPhone 13, thought I'd spark up the age old debate, android v iPhone! Which do you prefer?

I've always been android myself, had a huawei mate 20 pro up until recently, upgraded to a Samsung galaxy S21 and was so disappointed, so I've now ordered an iPhone 12 (specs aren't too different to the 13, and they're way cheaper now the 13 has been announced ) - use a macbook for work, so have a newfound appreciation for iOS, haha, but still apprehensive about the switch. Let me know your preferences!!

IMO you'll like iPhone 12. I've historically been an Android guy, and I'm honestly not a fan of Apple products (even after having the iPhone for almost a year now). I used to have an LG Velvet 5G, which I absolutely loved, but LG got out of the smartphone business. I absolutely despise Samsung phones, so I upgraded to the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

My experience is not terrible. The only reason I got the iPhone instead of getting a crappy Samsung Galaxy is the iPhone was on sale so I got it for about half off (with trading my old LG Velvet). iPhone is extremely reliable, it's fast, it works well.

My reasons for disliking the Apple ecosystem are a bit more technical, in the sense that the average consumer couldn't care less. So I hate that iPhone is such a "closed" system. On Android, I can freely transfer files, download files, install custom skins (launchers), etc. Yes, you can do a lot of that with iPhone, but it's more obscure. Again, technical things that most people won't care about, but as a techie I definitely notice it and dislike it.

Otherwise, no issues. I only have to charge my iPhone once a day. Moderate usage, some text messages and phone calls, browsing the forum, playing a couple of games and YouTube - that's it.

I'm a total techie too, haha, which is why I refuuuuse to get the 13, so not worth it. I've never been a massive fan of how apple handle their app store etc, and I really like being able to use my own launcher on androids, plus the Huawei camera was phenomenal, but I feel like androids kinda stopped getting any better a couple of years ago. The S21 was such a downgrade from my mate 20 pro, so excited to see how an Apple product compares. Also, LG were fab, I had a LG G6 many moons ago, loved that phone!!

Agreed usually!! I'm the same, PC parts, yes, will splash out, PS5, switch etc, all good, but I never usually get new release phones, always get the generation behind whatever is new. Luckily I got this for a pretty decent contract price, so wasn't too bad!!

The camera on my iPhone is awesome, even better than the Velvet. Let us know how you like it after a while. Curious to hear your thoughts.

I use neither. Never had any use for such a phone. Have a simple old mobile that I never even use.
I loved the old school flip phones and the phones where texting a simple message took like 5 minutes because you had to use the phone keypad! Sometimes wish I could go back to a ”dumb phone” but so used to the smartphones now. I have had both iphone and Android and for me….the iphone is the much better option. Especially when you have other apple devices as well.

Had the iPhone for a couple of days now, and the loss of functions is insane picture in picture on YouTube not being a default setting, even with YouTube premium. Can't resize keyboard/change shortcuts on it, even when I install SwiftKey. No fingerprint sensor and only 5x zoom are things I knew in advance, didn't realise I'd miss so much. I know everyone keeps going on about the apple ecosystem, and I do have a macbook and an iPad, but logging in to Google does the same thing, they weren't really any better linked when I was using my android. And widgets, godddd the lack of widgets.

Deffo sending it back, gonna wait for the Huawei P50 Pro to come out in the UK, that compared to even the iPhone 13 Pro Max is insaaaane. Deffo made a mistake switching over still have the S21 for now though, new found appreciation

I don't use PIP, but I did notice that it wasn't "a thing" in iPhone when I switched.

I've always vowed to never get exclusively tied up in a particular ecosystem. Owning an iPhone, I still use mostly Google products, including the Gboard keyboard for iPhone. I use Gmail and YouTube. Not because I'm dependent on Google, but because I prefer it over all others. I refuse to purchase a Mac computer because the prices are absurd, and my Windows machine is equally powerful at a fraction of the cost.

I'll also never own an Apple Watch, primarily because I won't benefit from the things provided by any smart watch. I'll never own an iPad, because my phone is more than capable for my usage.

And widgets, godddd the lack of widgets.
I don't use widgets, so I couldn't care less. In fact, I only ever have a single home screen, arranged with folders. But then again, my phone usage is rather uncommon, in that I don't use a phone for much of anything. I just like having a device that I know I can depend on in the event that I do need it for something more than a phone call or message.

I've always hated Apple, the way they try to lock you into their ecosystem and then start milking it.

That's been my approach, and still is for the most part. iPhone is far more open than it used to be. I have no issue with the iPhone so far, after about a year of owning my first one. However, if an LG equivalent Android phone ever pops back up I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

I have an iPhone but I honestly don’t care for them anymore. I’m more of an android person. At some point, I’m gonna try to go back to a basic phone or at least something that’s not so expensive. The prices for phones these days are ridiculous, especially seeing that they all for the most part do the same things.
