Acid Reflux?

I need some reassuring words to calm me down.

What are your symptoms of acid reflux ??

Burning is not a big one for me so I'm worried all my other symptoms are not acid reflux . Where do you get pain???

Not everyone gets all the symptoms of reflux, even the classic symptoms. I get a wide range of crap due to reflux, sometimes with the burning present and other times not. My list of symptoms I *may* feel with reflux at any given time:

* Classic burning / acid regurgitation
* Excess burping
* Stomach ache / nausea
* Chest pain
* Back pain / burning
* Shoulder pain / burning
* Runny nose
* Post nasal drip
* Probably a few others I forgot to mention

Back, sides, ribs, down the middle of chest. Along with a few others I won't mention so as not to put ideas in your head.

Mine is generally in my back and ribs. I don't get classic heartburn symptoms. Just pain.

I am so still freaking out about all this pain. This can't be just Gerds anymore. I have your normal symptoms of a lump in throat feeling, pressure in the middle of my back that radiates to the front and some burning but not a lot of heartburn. The pain the freaks me out the most is the Left-sided back pain that can start just under my left shoulder blade and travels down the left side of my body (Flank/Back) into my waist area.
I am convinced for sure this is colon cancer!!!


Can anyone relate to this pain? I'm so scared once again. I hate myself and my life for living like this.

Yes, this is normal pain with GERD. I experience that same pain in my back, sometimes down the whole side of my body. Of course it can be (and most likely IS) still just GERD.

I noticed in your threads you have been dealing with these issues for at least a month now. At this point if you’re still worried you NEED to see a doctor. If you aren’t actually sick, and you’re worrying this much, you’re gonna make yourself sick. So regardless you’re gonna end up at the doctor. It’s probably better to do it on your own accord rather than when it’s too late.

I know this isn’t what you want to hear. But sometimes a professional needs to intervene, as an anxiety community can only help so much. We want to see you get better and enjoy your life. And clearly right now you can’t enjoy anything as your stuck in this “I’m worried I’m dying” obstacle. Please go to a doctor. Let us know how you do.

I can't go to the doctors. I am absolutely terrified of going. Haven't gone in years. A cancer diagnosis would kill me instantly. Being older the odds are now against me.

Thanks for trying to help but your post kinda scared me. You think that after a month it could be cancer

The odds are against you having cancer. It doesnt even sound like any kind of cancer I have heard of. Are you being treated for GERD? Because just eating Tums or even taking Prilosec isn't going to solve the problem. Also, you are connecting the lump in your throat, which is fairly regular thing with GERD to the other pain, which sounds more like a compressed nerve issue to me. Although, when I have a flare up of GERD, the pain is almost always in my ribs. I'm not a doctor but I had a floating pain under my left pec for months with an irritated nerve. It was from my posture. I am in no way even pretending to dispense medical advice here. I have a degree in philosophy, not medicine. But a trip to the doctor is worth putting your mind at ease and hopefully finding relief from the pain. Once you find out the pain is not nefarious, it will probably be far less noticeable.

I have this exact pain, its been really bad lately. I was scared of colon cancer 1-2 years ago, went through all the tests, nothing. I think GERD is very likely.

I think your psyching yourself out, whether your sick or not. The brain is a tricky organ. I apologize for scaring you, definitely not my intention. Let me tell you a story of mine. Might help you feel better.

A few years ago, I was at the best point in my life. My lowest weight I had ever been. My confidence back. I woke up energized feeling good most days. It was like a dream. Then something traumatic happened to me, and like a switch, I felt the worst I had ever felt in my life. I cried from the moment I got up until the moment I went to sleep. Literally. Like I’m not exaggerating. I would be cleaning the counters or mopping the floors literally crying my eyes out. Even in my car. It was horrible. Then, it got worse. Right after this traumatic situation happened, I happened to burn a hole in my stomach with mangoes. I know. Sounds ridiculous. I never ate mangoes before and I thought since I’ve been so healthy and lost a bunch of weight, some smoothies would be nice. Let me tell you, when you have constant panic/stress it gives you GERD and IBS (which I suffer from both to this day consistently), and from all the worry and panic. I burned holes in my stomach that I’ve never treated since that point. Now, 4 years later, I still suffer most days.

That isn’t even the fun part. After the first week or so, the bad symptoms started coming. I started getting heart attack symptoms, shooting nerve pains in my arms, heart palpitations, chest pain, loss of vision, half my face was numb - this lasted for 4 months straight. I went to the doctors and did a bunch of tests. Of course they came out fine. They knew I wasn’t dying. But it took a long time to convince myself I wasn’t dying. I was in constant panic, hyperaware of everything that was happening in my body. It was the worst period of my life.

But that goes to show you that the brain is a scary place. And does horrible things to you. And the only way to ease those worries is by seeing a doctor. If I didn’t see a doctor, I probably would have gotten to the point where I had a complete breakdown... or made my stomach sicker than what it was. It was so horrible and so traumatic but I’m thankful for the doctors that (even though they knew I was fine) allowed me to do all the tests I needed to do to make myself feel better. The doctors isn’t always a scary place. They aren’t all horrible people. Most of them want to help you live your life in the most comfortable way possible. And will even entertain your worries to allow you to see that there’s nothing to worry about.

Also, try making a pro/con list. I know that sounds silly. But they work! Hang in there, and at least seriously consider going to the doctors at least once. If you go once, and it’s too much for you. Then don’t go again. But give yourself a chance to potentially find some relief.

It absolutely is. Throat clearing hoarseness, lump in the throat feeling. Hallmark symptoms. And you dont have to feel a burning. Everything in your throat is fairly delicate and can be irritated easily.

There is no particular side. GERD can cause pain in many places.

That's normal with or without GERD. But GERD is going to make you especially sensitive to feeling it.
