When You First Wake Up

I wanted to ask everyone what’s on their mind when they first wake up. I feel as though my mind is usually at rest but it’s no time until my mind starts questioning whether I’m anxious or not. Often, the cycle begins from there. I’ve found, when time permits, if I can fall back asleep even for a few minutes when I wake up the second time the cycle does not repeat.

I usually wake up questioning whether I'm anxious or not. Going back to sleep for a few minutes doesn't change it though. I ignore it and get up and around, and when I get my day started then those thoughts tend to disappear.

I wake up very concern about the anxiety and what the day will bring, but after the morning wash up, I feel better, up until the afternoon when the anxiety will decide to attack or not.

I tend to jolt awake most mornings in a panic. 9/10 times. Not about anything specific. I don’t even have a thought “am I anxious or not”? I just jolt awake in a panic.

This happens to me when i'm trying to fall asleep.

Cortisol is generally higher in the morning. For "normal" people, it helps them wake up. We either produce more, or are more sensitive to it.

First things in the morning seems to be consistently my worst time of the day. (excepting random panic attacks) I'm generally baffled by almost everything and get overwhelmed doing the simplest of tasks. Just getting dressed and making coffee is a major endeavor. I haven't figured out if it is related to needing my medications to kick in but there's probably some merit to that theory.

Is cortisol the main culprit of anxiety or one of them? Also, does the fight or flight response come into play? Is that associated with cortisol? Thanks for your reply.

I get overwhelmed with the simplest of tasks as well. I believe you clearly get what I was trying to get across in my post. I would also go as far as saying I sometimes dread simple tasks because I know there’s a risk I will get off track and consume a lot of energy and suffer the consequences later. Cleaning is another beast that can get out of hand because once I get started there’s no stopping sometimes. It’s making me tired just thinking about it.
Thanks triceps. I hope to communicate more with you.

It's good that you have a little trick that helps you .

I am ON even before I wake up. First thing I do every morning, before everything, before coffee is take my beloved doggo out for his morning pee session, that gives me anxiety even as I go to bed at night, and I wake up with that " Oh, no " thought everyday. So I'm pretty much more tired in the morning, then when I go to sleep at night.

When I first wake up, the first things that usually cross my mind are what challenges will I likely face today, what goals can I accomplish today, and how much longer can I stay in bed before I have to get up and face the day.
