Hello.

My name is Chris, I am 35 yr's old and I shy and quite person. I don't have any friends or love life. I get social anxiety in weird situations, I often do not know what to say to people which makes things awkward making me feel stupid.

Hi Chris

I don't know you, but you dont sound stupid at all. I found shyness a bliss and a sign of respect to others ( Im weird too sometimes)

Nice to meet you!

Hello Chris. Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as you, same age as well, so I understand how you must feel. My only friends are online, and sometimes I can have a hard time talking to them too. I have no love life, and thanks to the shyness and anxiety I never have. One thing that keeps me from talking to people is just not knowing what to say, so I know what it's like too. So yeah you definitely aren't alone in how you feel. I, along with others here, definitely understand and relate to the things you deal with. I probably can't help, but feel free to message me if you want someone to try and chat with. It does help you feel a little better being able to talk to people that understand, and I know it can be hard to say anything but give it a try if you want. Anyway, take care and I hope you can find something that helps you.

Welcome to the forum Chris. I used to have social anxiety often when I was younger. I am better now, but I still have my times. Hope you enjoy it here!

Hi Chris,
It's a brave step to write down how you feel. I wouldn't say that you sound in the slightest bit stupid. There is nothing stupid about anxiety. It's a very real feeling, and it can control you totally if you allow it to. I am lucky in so far as I don't have the type of social anxiety it sounds like you have. But believe me I have a whole raft of equally life destroying anxiety issues. It's horrible to feel that you don't fit in with the majority of society isn't it? I personally think that modern life is not really the way we are supposed to live. In years gone by our ancestors would have lived in small communities where everyone knew everyone else from the off. You didn't have to branch out into the unknown to make your mark in the world. In the current day we are expected to travel and move all over the place and constantly pushing ourselves into new situations and inevitably this means constantly meeting new people. It's tough. Easy social discourse doesn't come readily to most people. The trouble is we have been conditioned to believe that what we see on the TV is the normal way to behave, it's not. The world is a topsy turvy place and please don't ever think that you are strange or that you will never make friends.
