Ok so I am freaking out right now. I have had belly pains for a few days now. Today out of nowhere I got a surge of burning into my throat. It was something I never experienced before. I have a history of acid reflux and this is still a weird feeling. I started freaking out it is a heart attack. I have no risk factors but it could happen to anyone at anytime. Now I’m warm bc I think I’m getting myself all wound up. I feel like my skin is burning and am nauseous. I just took a Zantac and a xanex. Why do I go to these horrible places in my head???? Most people would chalk it up to the sausage they had the night before!!!

The burning is subtle and I do have lots of burps. I have no other symptoms of a heart attack. I’m just so upset with myself for having these thoughts. Intellectually I know it’s prob acid reflux from foods I ate. Emotionally, I always go to that worst case scenario. I’ve been trying to lose the baby weight so I’m on a diet. I have been eating lots of veggies with onions and garlic. Im sure that’s it but whyyyyy am I so crazy? I just want to be normal and rational. It’s starting to depress meHi Mrsx. Garlic is the main thing that gives me heartburn but I enjoy it so much and it wasn't a problem until about five years ago. Thankfully I don't have acid reflux but I have met Larry the Cable Guy who has made quite a few commercials for Nexium or maybe Prilosec. He told me "I don't take that s**t." Try not to get down on yourself for that negative, anxiety thinking. It's not your fault in any way and we just have to put up with it and trudge on.
This is random and a long shot but do you maybe take like a multi vitamin or anything of the sort? I take a really large one a day vitamin and if I take it in the morning without eating first I get the world’s most debilitating heart burn and burning in my throat. Every now and then I forgot to eat breakfast and take it and it ruins the first like three hours of my day. Just a thought!
That is so estute of you! I started a multi vitamin a few days before. I also made the possible connection and stopped taking it. I feel much better! Lol your situation sounded exactly like what had happened to me a while back and after a few days of suffering I also made the connection with the vitamin pill I was taking. Well I hope you’re doing much better now. Best wishes!

Try to keep a journal of what you eat and how you felt after you ate it, see if you notice any patterns. (I should take my own advice...) It can be annoying to do but probably worth it. You can then avoid trigger foods. Even with medication, it is important to avoid foods that are triggers for you. I've wasted money going to the ER once thinking I was having a heart attack but they said it was just GERD. GERD is horrible, and a lot of times people will minimize the distress it causes, which is unfair and makes the person suffering from it feel like they are stupid or incompetent. It is very common for people who have GERD to feel like they are having a heart attack, so you are not alone. Humans are incredibly emotional so a lot of times what something feels like , is our entire reality, it becomes 'what is' to us even if that is not the case. So we can be duped into believing all sorts of lies. (Ever heard the saying it's way easier to fool somebody than it is to convince them they are being fooled?) The instinctual/primitive/emotional part our brain has a lot more evolutionary experience than the cold/logical rational objective parts unfortunately!
Also how much exercise are you getting? Proper exercise helps your digestion systems it seems. Whenever I work out properly I notice I go to the bathroom better and it also helps relieves my asthma and breathing symptoms. (just don't push yourself too hard)

The thing is...how do we know when it is Gerd and when it is a heart attack or anything else more serious?

Great question! Chest pain due to heart problems tends to travel down your left arm and around the back. Also feels more like somebody tightening a belt around the heart. It is more painful than discomfort. After I learned this I realized that my chest issues never did this... the pain never traveled to my left arm, and it helped ease my mind a bit.
Chest pain due to anxiety/gerd/bronchitis/other issues is localized more in a single area, and it is more uncomfortable than pain. However, if you are not used it and there is minor pain people tend to think it is about the heart (when it isn't) This is understandable and logical, because the issue is near a vital organ. Same thing with really bad headaches, they often scare people because the brain is a vital organ along with your heart. (Obviously you can live without a leg or arm. You can't live without a brain or heart!) Even when your brain is usually fine, and something else can be causing the headaches. Also the sensation between "uncomfortable" and "pain" can be a bit difficult for people to figure out, especially very sensitive people with anxiety disorders. I am incredibly sensitive naturally (I'm an artist) - and the least little thing can feel much worse than it truly is.
Anxiety/GERD/Bronchitis issues will get better with movement and be noticeably worse when you are still or lying down. If it's your heart, it will get worse with movement or it will always hurt.
Note: I am not a licensed medical professional so please talk with your doctor about a treatment that is right for you, and a more knowledgeable person can correct me for any factual errors I made in my post. However, I am a guy that likes helping people as I know what its like to suffer from bad anxiety.

Also I know its hard at times but you just have to try and be as logical/objective as you can. IF you really were dying from a heart attack, you wouldn't be able to talk about it on an online message board - you would be writhing on the floor in intense pain and most likely blacking out/losing consciousness. Just like when I was CONVINCED I had pneumonia and not 'just bronchitis' - I would have been in the ICU already if it was that bad, my skin coloring would've been more awful, I'd have more bluish lips, and a fever, and would not be able to argue with my family as much as I did lol. I also would be much more bedridden.
We have anxiety issues here, so when are suffering from something- it is greatly magnified. People who don't have anxiety issues just don't seem to 'get that.' I remember as a small child, being bullied felt like I was being tortured physically in a serious way - even though so many people said 'stop being so sensitive, everybody gets teased.' The positive side is when something good happens, I can also be overcome with joy.
Of course this makes me wonder when I inevitably really do go through something serious and life-threatening (not just very uncomfortable) how am I going to handle it LOL but I am doing the best I can every day. And hey, there is morphine for those situations right?
