Would really appreciate your help. Suffering from health anxiety for about 4 months now. Just can’t shake it. Always fatigued, feeling physical symptoms and afraid something is very wrong. I just want to feel like my old self again. It’s almost crippling me.

Hey Kat,

Start by reading through this entire thread. You will see that you are far from alone. What things have you tried?

Summers, this is wonderful that you are helping all these people with your experience and kind words. I hope to be able to do the same once I get my mind straightened out again. I have had anxiety in the past, learned to control it with the help of medications. Went off meds and stil was able to control it but it has raised its ugly head again. I am currently having health anxiety, anxiety about anxiety and fears of dying. Started on Paxil 6 weeks ago and just switched to lexapro 5 days ago. I'm looking forward to feeling better soon.

Hey Megan! The good news for you is that you KNOW you will get it under control. Use that confidence to help you get past this sooner. Some people are going to require medication for a long period of time, and there's nothing wrong with that. If the Lexapro doesn't work great for you, ask your doctor about Viibryd, that's what I take.

And again, the anxiety about anxiety...that was the worst part for me. Try to laugh it off...its kind of funny when you think about it.

I tried Viibryd last Friday and the panic and anxiety attacks were so severe I had to get off it. Dr have me Zoloft again and I'm terrified to take it. I feel like there is no way out.

I feel like crying right now! (new on the forum) almost all your stories are very similar to mine!! A lump in neck (swollen lymph node from the flu) pushed me over the edge and had me land in the ER thinking I had a stroke. It's been downhill since. I'm glad I listened to the ER guy who suggested I see a therapist. Did a couple of general medicals (I couldn't give 2 cents about my health prior to that!!) and trying to get a grasp over things. It's only been three months and I constantly feel frustrated.

Hey guys/girls,

I'm new here, and I'm sort of an "anxiety survivor". After a lot of work and long suffering, I was able to overcome crippling anxiety to the point where...I don't feel anxiety very much at all anymore.

I remember thinking when I was going through all of it,"If I just had someone that truly understood what I was going through to talk to, this might be a lot easier. If I just knew someone that beat this that could help me".

I feel like I could provide a few really good tips (depending on your situation) that really helped me overcome this. I hate the fact that there are so many people out there struggling with this.

So let's start with, what kind of an anxiety are you all feeling? Mine was health and then it turned into anxiety about getting anxiety.
Mine is health. Started in july of 2016. With minor chest pains. Then dry throat and irritation. Throat just now feeling better. I have had every test done and camera at every angle. Now i get winded and breathing feels weird at times. If im working(hvac service tech) it is less noticeable. When my kids are gone with their mom it gets worse. Oh and i feel my heart beat alot when i lay down. Already had 2 ekg

Not even joking, I got a swollen lymph node in my neck when I was 10 from the flu. It NEVER went away. I used to be obsessed with it! Anyway, this is probably just a phase for you. It's good that you are or you are going to see a therapist. When you say you feel frustrated...what specifically about?

How long were you taking Viibryd before you started getting the worse anxiety? I promise you there is a way out...and you will find it. But obviously you want to know when. And that's the tough part sometimes. Have you been on Zoloft long?

These are all symptoms of anxiety. My brother, who also suffers from anxiety, always complained to me about feeling his heart beating in his chest when he lays down. Sure enough...he had all the heart tests done and there was no problem. I personally had an EKG, echocardiogram, stress test, and 24 hour heart monitor which all returned back normal. Anxiety can truly do it all! It can be beaten. If you can't do it naturally, there's always meds to get it under control.

All the random pains i'm getting. I had chest tinglibg for days then it disappeared and was replaced by severe constipation for another week. Which then turned into jaw discomfort and shoulder and arm pain. It feels neverending!

I took it one day. I did not sleep for two days afterwards and had the worst panic attacks ever. A friend had to give me xanax three days later to settle down which helped. Now I'm afraid to take Zoloft. I have some xanax but I'm scared to take it with Zoloft. I need to do something because I am suffering too much

CC83, I get what you're saying about being afraid to take the meds your doctor prescribed, but I suggest you give them a try! Yes, it is safe to take Xanax and Zoloft together - I take Effexor and Xanax (not often). Xanax can stop the cycle of obsessive worrying and hopefully you can reset your thinking. It is not weak to take meds, and there is certainly no shame in it! The Zoloft will take a while to kick in, but it should give you relief. Please stay in touch and be kind to yourself! Peggy

I'm just so afraid. Then I started looking up side effects for ssri which I really didn't do when I took them years ago because if I read it I will make it happen. Today I read about serotonin syndrome and I'm like I don't want to take any of this! But I also can't live in such a state where I am never happy and anxious every moment of my I don't know what to do. Thanks for your response. This is just not easy.

CC83, I get the side effects thing, and my doctor tells me to throw away the insert and to never look them up. Even if one person has that side effect, it has to be listed. I believe in the power of suggestion, and if you read that might happen, well, you know.
I know my meds are helping me, but I was just like you. At first I insisted on half of a normal dose because I was afraid. I have finally begun the full does, so I truly get your fear. But I will tell you that many many people have been helped by taking meds. I pray you make the right decision for yourself, whatever that ends up being.

I know I have to take it. I went out to eat tonight and I could barely eat or function. My life is miserable. I have panic attacks every day. I'm a teacher and I have to get it in check before school begins in a few weeks. Thank you so much for your support. It helps me more than you know. What do you take?

CC, I take Effexor, and I so get the support thing. It even helps me to try and help others.
Yes, you do need to get this under control before you go back to school, and I know teaching is not a stress-free job. Maybe you already wrote this, but what were you prescribed? I had been off Effexor and bad bad anxiety was a result - I restarted recently and am waiting for it to completely 'kick-in.'
