Can a land lord do this or is it illegal.

That man had no right to show your letter to all and sundry. It really seems like you are being bullied and I really despise bullies.I'm sure if you ask your doctor he will write you a letter that you can show. One that does actually explain your illness properly. What is happening about the locks on your main door? Is your son going to change it for you?

Oh, I don't know! I don't know @XmasCarol52 surely it must be your right to change the locks! Your legal basic human right! Surely must be?

Please give me a little bit of time and I am going to look this up. What state are you living in? I know there are different rules for different states. I used to be a landlady for a house in Rochester USA and as far as I was aware my tenants were allowed to change the locks for their own security purposes. Hopefully, this is not useless. Give me a little while and I will try to find what the law is on that.

I've been putting in so many searches in google for the laws on changing locks in the USA and all that is coming up for me is the UK law! How frustrating! I think the best thing to do will be to ask a lawyer and see what they say. Could your son do that for you? there must be a law preventing your landlady from keep entering your property uninvited. It is harassment and surely she could get into trouble for that. Maybe you could see a lawyer and ask about what is the best thing to do and where you stand. It would put your mind at rest, but for sure this woman is in the wrong.

If you eat it will help to relax you. Best to have something in your stomach if you are feeling anxious. I have had more of a look online to see if there is anything about changing locks but to no avail. I think the best thing is for your son to talk to his lawyer.

It says on there that the law says some people must not be evicted. There is a special law called 'good cause' and it can protect you from eviction in some cases.I think it may be that you are protected by the 'good cause' law.

It seems that you would qualify for that cause because of your disability.

To qualify for good cause, you must

· live in a rental unit that has at least 5 units in all, and

· have a physical or mental disability or be a senior (62 or over).

It says on that site that the disability must be physical or mental and it must be expected to last at least 12 months.

I still think its best for your son to have a chat with his lawyer and tell his lawyer how your landlady is harassing you. She could be adding to your anxious mental state by doing what she does. If your son wants to opt out of paying for the lawyer, the trick is to call the lawyer and ask him on the telephone. He could just call his office and speak with his legal secretary and she would know the answer.

Then that is the best thing to do. Go and visit your regular doctor and ask him to write you a small note to say that your yelling is due to your mental disability. When I was first going on the sick some months ago, I ended up seeing a doctor that wasn't my regular doctor and she gave me pills but I wasn't 100% happy. I would have had to wait four weeks to see my own regular doctor so then I decided to go and see my own doctor. He was much better and now I just wait until I can see him. Especially with my mental disability, I need him to know and understand and that won't happen if it is someone else that I see each time.

Your own doctor will understand more about you as he knows you better. He has seen you more and dealt with your physical and mental health for how long?

Before I was on the sick, I was on unemployment welfare and the jobcentre sent me to a charity to help me find work. Although my heart was in it, I attended a workshop there and they ended up triggering off my problems and I ended up losing my rag. I was totally embarrassed and when I got home I started looking up about the triggers online. I prepared a word doc by cutting and pasting everything I could find about my mental state and sent it to everyone at the charity and at the jobcentre. I felt I had to explain why I had had an outburst and apologised. I found that they were really understanding and nice. Even though I am not with them all now, they all told me that if I need to talk that all I have to do is get in touch with them and they would be there for me. So it does help to explain your woes sometimes. Don't concern yourself with this doctor that you saw yesterday. Make an appointment with your regular doctor and I think you will find him much more understanding.

If she knows her job... then she should know you. What she meant to say was you haven't paid her enough yet. She probably thinks your going to ditch her as your therapist after you get the note. She doesnt want that. That's why she said no .
